Hyderabad, Sept 2026 : As devotees prepare to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi from today (September 14), a uniquely designed idol of Lord Ganesha based on the theme of ‘Viksit Bharat’ has emerged as a major attraction in Hyderabad, drawing large numbers of devotees.
The idol and the elaborate pooja pandal have been designed around the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), a goal envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Blending spirituality with modern technology and development, the 10-day celebrations showcase a futuristic representation of how India could look by 2047.
The state-of-the-art pandal has been erected in Hyderabad’s Lalita Bagh area by the Mallikarjun Nagar Youth Welfare Association, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The organisers have used robotic frames and technology-driven designs to create both the idol and the pandal, giving the celebrations a distinctly modern appearance while retaining their religious and spiritual character.
Shrikant, who designed the pandal around the ‘Viksit Bharat’ concept, said the initiative was aimed at creating awareness about the vision of a developed India among devotees and visitors.
“We have installed the idol of Lord Ganesha in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India. We chose the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ theme to inform people about this vision. We designed the pandal and the idol by visualising what India will look like in 2047,” Shrikant said.
According to him, the organisers have attempted to combine patriotism with devotion through the theme. The pandal depicts India's journey from traditional forms of transportation and agriculture to modern infrastructure and technology.
“We have tried to blend patriotism with devotion to Lord Ganesha. Last year, we decorated the pandal and the idol based on the ‘Operation Sindoor’ theme. This time, we have created a model featuring a bullet train alongside a bullock cart within the pandal,” Shrikant said.
The contrast between the bullet train and the traditional bullock cart has been used to symbolise India's transformation from its traditional past towards a technologically advanced future.
Shrikant’s associate Sushil Kumar said the entire pandal had been conceptualised to present a picture of India’s expected development by 2047. Posters displayed at the venue highlight various development initiatives, particularly in sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture.
“We have prepared the Ganesh pandal based on the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ theme. We have tried to showcase what India will look like and the progress it will achieve by 2047. Through posters, we are displaying the work Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to undertake over the next 20 years. The pandal is decorated with posters highlighting various development initiatives, including those in manufacturing and agriculture,” Sushil Kumar said.
The organisers have also continued with their practice of adopting contemporary national themes for their Ganesh Chaturthi decorations. In 2025, the association had based its pandal and idol on the ‘Operation Sindoor’ theme, which received appreciation from visitors.
“This year, Lord Ganesha has been depicted in an armoured avatar. We chose this theme to instil a sense of both patriotism and devotion to God among everyone,” Sushil Kumar said.
The celebrations will continue for 11 days, with a series of cultural programmes being organised alongside traditional puja and ‘havan’ rituals at the pandal.
The unique combination of devotion, patriotism, technology and India's development aspirations has made the Viksit Bharat-themed Ganesh idol a prominent attraction for devotees in the Lalita Bagh area as Hyderabad prepares for the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.
