Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that students from Backwards Classes will now have access to quality and nutritious meals in hostels. The state government has introduced this facility as part of its efforts for
student welfare. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that assistance of ₹13,500 crore has been provided for Backwards Class students over the past nearly 15 years. During this period, more than 5 crore Backward Class students have directly benefited from various schemes, reflecting the state government’s commitment to their welfare.Chief Minister Dr. Yadav inaugurated modern mess facilities for 9,000 students in 106 post-matric hostels across the state through video conference from Mantralaya. An amount of ₹8.61 crore has been spent on the facility. Appreciating the initiative, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav congratulated the Backwards Classes Welfare Department. He said that modern facilities are being developed in hostels in keeping with changing times. He added that Madhya Pradesh, the youngest state in Young India, has made this important facility available to students from Backwards Classes.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav Interacts with Girl Students
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav interacted with girl students residing in Backwards Class hostels in Indore, Shajapur, Ujjain, Dewas, Shivpuri, Satna and Ashoknagar. The students said that the state government had provided them with a useful facility. Earlier, they had to spend time arranging gas cylinders or travelling elsewhere for meals, which also involved additional expenses. The students thanked Chief Minister Dr. Yadav for introducing the modern mess facilities.
Minister of State for Backwards Classes Welfare (Independent Charge) Smt. Krishna Gaur said that Chief Minister Dr. Yadav had taken an important initiative for Backwards Class students. He had committed to the overall development of departmental hostels and was working to fulfil this commitment. Modern kitchens and dining halls have been set up in the hostels under a turnkey project. The facility will now ensure the availability of nutritious and quality meals for hostel residents. She said the facility would be particularly useful for students coming from rural and remote areas that live away from their families for education and often have to manage basic necessities such as food. The facility would also reduce the financial burden on their families.
Minister of State Smt. Gaur said that regular and nutritious meals would help students concentrate better on their studies and achieve improved academic results. There are currently around 9,000 seats in Backwards Class hostels across the state, including 5,200 seats for boys and 3,800 for girls. She said that this is the first time that mess facilities have been introduced for students since the establishment of district-level Backward Class post-matric hostels, describing it as a landmark step for the department. Several public representatives also participated in the inauguration programme from different districts.
