Mumbai, Sept 2026 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde showered flowers on Lord Ganesha during the Ganesh Visarjan ceremony at Girgaon Chowpatty on Thursday.
As devotees bid an emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha, Fadnavis prayed that the immersion would symbolically mark the end of “ill-intent and wrong thinking” and that everyone would be blessed with wisdom and good sense.
Speaking to the media on the occasion, Fadnavis said Ganesh immersion processions were being conducted smoothly across Maharashtra. He particularly appreciated the arrangements made by the police and municipal authorities in Mumbai and Pune, saying their efforts had ensured that the processions were conducted peacefully and without disruption.
Fadnavis also praised the Maharashtra Police, describing it as one of the capable and well-equipped police forces in the country and the world. Referring to the message of Ganeshotsav, he said the festival should inspire people to “immerse wrong thinking and pray for wisdom for everyone.”
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said citizens had responded positively to appeals to celebrate Ganeshotsav in a disciplined and environmentally responsible manner.
He said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Mumbai Police had made comprehensive arrangements for the festival and ensured that the celebrations and immersion processions were conducted in an orderly manner.
The Ganesh Visarjan celebrations at Girgaon Chowpatty were attended by Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Mayor Ritu Tawde, MP Milind Deora, MLA Amit Satam, Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide and Mumbai District Collector Aanchal Goyal.
Also present were BEST Committee Chairperson Trishna Vishwase, Additional Municipal Commissioner Avinash Dhakane, Deputy Commissioners Chanda Jadhav and Prashant Sapkal, Assistant Commissioner Santosh Salunke, Consuls General of several countries based in India and other senior officials.
