Joint Working Group discusses institutional and defence-industrial ties as both sides work to advance the 2024–2028 cooperation framework
New Delhi, Sept 2026 : India and Poland on Monday reviewed ways to deepen institutional, defence and defence-industrial cooperation, with the two countries focusing on the implementation of their 2024–2028 Joint Action Plan.
The discussions took place during a meeting of the India-Poland Joint Working Group (JWG), co-chaired in New Delhi by Secretary of Defence Production Sanjeev Kumar and Poland’s Secretary of State and Deputy Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the meeting focused on operationalising the Joint Action Plan and strengthening cooperation across institutional, defence and defence-industrial areas.
The latest discussions form part of broader efforts by India and Poland to expand their strategic partnership and identify new areas of collaboration. Defence and defence production have emerged as important components of the bilateral relationship, alongside trade, technology and other areas of mutual interest.
The progress of the Joint Action Plan was also reviewed earlier this month during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit to Poland.
On September 4, Jaishankar met Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in Warsaw. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the implementation of the 2024–2028 action plan across a wide range of sectors.
Jaishankar said the discussions covered trade and investment, space, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, defence, education, shipping, mining and energy, as well as people-to-people ties, culture and multilateral cooperation.
The External Affairs Minister also highlighted Poland’s support for stronger India-European Union cooperation and expressed confidence that the entry into force of the India-EU free trade agreement would contribute to closer bilateral economic engagement.
Global issues, including supply-chain resilience and food, fuel and fertiliser security, were also discussed during the meeting. Jaishankar said the two sides exchanged views on international challenges and the need for an end to ongoing conflicts.
During his Poland visit, Jaishankar also met Polish President Karol Nawrocki in Warsaw. Their discussions focused on the trajectory of the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and included exchanges on the conflict in Ukraine, developments in the Middle East and West Asia, the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and the G20.
The JWG meeting in New Delhi provides another platform for both countries to translate the commitments under the Joint Action Plan into concrete areas of cooperation. With defence production and industrial collaboration receiving particular attention, India and Poland are expected to continue exploring opportunities to strengthen institutional links, defence capabilities and industrial partnerships.
The engagement also reflects the broader expansion of India-Poland relations, with both sides pursuing cooperation across strategic, economic, technological and multilateral areas.
