Hyderabad, Oct 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao on Sunday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of failing to fulfil promises made to the people of Telangana ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections. KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, also alleged that Rahul Gandhi was ignoring corruption allegations against the Congress government in the state.
Addressing a programme at Telangana Bhavan, the BRS headquarters, KTR described Rahul Gandhi as one of the biggest “liars” in Indian politics. The event was organised to welcome senior minority leader Jibran Sharif, from the Khairatabad constituency, into the BRS.
KTR alleged that Rahul Gandhi had made 420 promises to the people of Telangana before the elections but was now avoiding accountability for them. He pointed out that the Congress had pledged to implement six guarantees within 100 days, fulfil 13 declarations and deliver on all 420 promises.
“More than 1,000 days have passed. What happened to Rahul Gandhi’s 420 promises?” he asked, questioning the Congress leadership over the status of its electoral commitments.
The BRS leader said Rahul Gandhi continued to travel across the country and speak about initiatives such as “Chhatron Ki Goonj” (Voice of Students), but had failed to address the situation in Telangana. He alleged that the Congress leader had a responsibility to explain to the people why the promises made during the election campaign remained unfulfilled.
KTR Alleges Corruption Under Telangana Congress Government
KTR accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of failing to address corruption allegations and claimed that public dissatisfaction with the administration was growing. He alleged that while the BJP government at the Centre was dividing people, the Congress government in Telangana was exploiting the state’s resources.
He further alleged that Rahul Gandhi remained silent on corruption because he was benefiting from the alleged flow of funds. KTR also called Revanth Reddy Rahul Gandhi’s “ATM card”. These were allegations made by the BRS leader.
The BRS working president also questioned the Congress government’s promise to provide jobs to two lakh unemployed youth within its first year in office. He demanded clarity on how much progress had been made towards fulfilling the commitment.
Questions Raised Over Minority Welfare and Farmers’ Benefits
KTR alleged that the Congress had failed to implement its Minority Declaration, which was announced to support minority communities in Telangana. He questioned the status of the party’s promise to allocate ₹4,000 crore for minority welfare.
He also criticised the government over the proposed increase in the monthly Aasara pension from ₹2,000 to ₹4,000, a commitment associated with the Congress’s election promises. The Aasara pension scheme was introduced by the previous BRS government.
The BRS leader further questioned why the Congress had not fulfilled its promise to increase financial assistance to farmers from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 per acre.
KTR alleged that controversies surrounding land transactions and business agreements involving family members of people in senior government positions were emerging under the Revanth Reddy administration. He called for greater accountability over such matters.
BRS Predicts Political Comeback in Telangana
KTR also criticised the Congress party’s ability to challenge communal politics nationally, arguing that it lacked the political strength to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said people were closely observing the government’s approach towards farmers, the poor, unemployed youth, BRS leaders and party workers. According to KTR, dissatisfaction with the Congress government was increasing across Telangana.
Expressing confidence in his party’s political prospects, KTR predicted that the BRS would return to power within the next 18 months. He asserted that BRS president K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) would become Chief Minister again in 2028.
KTR said the BRS would work to restore Telangana’s position as one of the country’s leading states. His remarks came amid continued political sparring between the BRS and the ruling Congress over electoral promises, employment, farmer assistance, minority welfare and allegations of corruption.
The Congress government’s performance on these commitments remains a central point of contention between the two parties, with the BRS demanding answers on implementation and the ruling party facing continued criticism from the Opposition.
