Double blow to drug traffickers, detention of traffickers and seizure of illegal properties intensified
Illegal property worth Rs 78.5 crore seized in Uttar Pradesh in 2026
Lucknow, September 2026 : The impact of the Yogi government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs continues to be visible across Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Police and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) have intensified action against traffickers involved in the drug trade and have also tightened the noose around their illegal properties. Action for detention of drug traffickers has also been accelerated. In 2026, up to September 23, action was taken against 71 traffickers in the state under the PIT NDPS Act.
UP DGP Rajeev Krishna said, “The objective of action against drugs is not only to arrest traffickers, but also to dismantle their entire network and seize the illegal property acquired through the drug trade. Action is being intensified towards the goal of making Uttar Pradesh drug-free by 2029.”
Emphasis was also laid on breaking the financial backbone of traffickers by seizing illegal property earned through the drug trade. In 2025, property worth around Rs 11 crore was seized in 29 cases. In 2026, up to September 23, illegal property worth around Rs 78.5 crore was seized in 88 cases.
Under the Yogi government, action was taken against seven traffickers in the state under the PIT NDPS Act in 2024, including five actions by the ANTF. In 2025, detention action was taken against 19 traffickers in the state, while in 2026, action was taken against 71 traffickers. Of these, in 2026, the ANTF took action against 33 traffickers.
Action in cases of seizure of illegal property in the state has also increased continuously. In 2024, the ANTF seized property worth around Rs 1 crore in four cases. In 2025, the ANTF took action involving around Rs 11 crore in 29 cases, and in 2026, action involving around Rs 10 crore in 50 cases. According to the figures for joint action by the Police and ANTF, the total seizure in 2026 amounted to around Rs 78.5 crore.
Detention (arrest) action has been taken under the PIT NDPS Act against notorious drug traffickers such as Gurumel Singh, Bhola Prasad, Sanjeev Rana, Vibhor Rana, Shermani Patel and Parmanand alias Pappu.
Strike at the root of the drug trade
The DGP said that our action is not limited only to the arrest of traffickers. Under Sections 68(E) and 68(F) of the NDPS Act, illegal property acquired through drug trafficking is first temporarily frozen and, after investigation and hearing, permanently seized. Through this, traffickers are also being financially weakened.
