Krishiveers honoured at the second stop of Kisan Caravan 2.0
15 farmers win ₹1,000 each in farming and agriculture quiz
Meerut, September 2026 : Kisan Caravan 2.0, launched to directly engage farmers in western Uttar Pradesh on current challenges in farming, technology, and market-related issues, reached Meerut on Thursday. A large number of farmers participated in 'Regional Kisan Mahasabha' organized at the auditorium of IIMT University.
The event, organized in collaboration with Kisan Tak and the UP Government, saw experts and farmers share their views on issues such as Sugarcane, Basmati, crop protection, natural farming and modern agricultural technology. The program began at around 10 am. To convey agriculture-related messages to farmers through entertainment, magician Salman gave a presentation based on agricultural themes. Messages related to farming were presented in an engaging manner through magic.
Given the unique identity of Basmati paddy cultivation in western Uttar Pradesh, a panel discussion was held on the topic ‘Basmati Ke Badshah: Khushboo Se Bazaar Tak’. Kisan Tak Editor Omprakash moderated the discussion. BEDF Director Dr. Ritesh Sharma, progressive farmer Pritam Singh and Vinod Saini participated in the discussion. Dr. Ritesh Sharma shared ideas for better markets, a stronger supply chain, and direct farmer-to-export connections. The panel also discussed the potential to develop Hapur as a model hub for Basmati exports and improve market access.
Given sugarcane's role in western UP's agricultural economy, a separate session was held on the topic ‘The Sugarcane Stronghold: Solutions to Challenges Along with Sweetness’. The panel, moderated by Kisan Tak Senior Correspondent JP Singh, included jaggery-producing farmer KP Singh, farmer leader Dharmendra Malik, progressive sugarcane farmer Omkar Tyagi and agricultural scientist Raghubir Singh of ICR-IISR.
The discussion focused on improving the sugarcane payment system, preventing diseases such as red rot, making new disease-resistant varieties available to farmers, and measures to better manage dry sugarcane leaves through machines. Amid rising farming risks, experts also discussed ‘Farming Security: Insurance, Technology and the Support of Nature’. Kisan Tak Deputy Editor Himani Diwan moderated the session. The panel included organic farmer Anu Tyagi, Dr. R.K. Singh of the Head-Potato Center, Modipuram, Dr. Sandeep Chaudhary of KVK Shamli, and Agriculture Director Pramod Sirohi. They discussed expanding the reach of crop insurance, promoting natural farming, and effectively taking technologies such as solar pumps, drones, and nano urea to farmers.
The Kisan Mahasabha also organized a quiz on farming and agriculture to increase farmers’ participation. Farmers participated by scanning a QR code. Organizers selected five winners from each of the three quizzes. Thus, 15 farmers received a cash prize of ₹1,000 each.
Under Kisan Caravan 2.0, regional Kisan Mahasabhas are being organized across the state’s nine agro-climatic zones. At the Mahasabha organized in Meerut, 10 farmers selected from various districts of the western region were honored with the ‘Krishiveer’ award. The farmers honored included Manju Kashyap, Omveer Singh, Pritam Singh, Vinod Saini, Neelam Tyagi, Neerja Sharma, Shyam Singh, Thakur Dharampal, Junaid Faridi Ali and Vinod Pawar. They received certificates of appreciation and trophies. During the event, a 20-member Kisan Parishad was also formed to take farmers’ problems and ground-level needs to the concerned level. The council includes progressive farmers, agricultural officers, and agricultural scientists.
At the second stop of Kisan Caravan 2.0 in Meerut, participants discussed the challenges of farming in western UP, along with farmers’ successes, new agricultural technology, and opportunities to connect with better markets. The event also focused on connecting sugarcane and Basmati's traditional strengths with modern technology and markets.
