Anupama Clinches Bronze at Australian Women’s Open Snooker Championship

Sydney, October 2026: India’s Anupama secured the bronze medal at the Australian Women’s Open after losing to Thailand’s world No. 3 Mink Nutcharut in the semifinals of the women’s snooker tournament.

The 24-year-old Indian, ranked eighth in the world and the top seed in Group D, made an impressive debut at the tournament, reaching the last four before her campaign ended against the experienced Thai player.

Anupama’s performance continues her encouraging start to the season following her appearance at the UK Women’s Championship in Leeds last month. At that tournament, she produced a notable comeback in the quarterfinals, recovering from a 0-2 deficit to defeat reigning world champion Panchaya Channoi. However, she subsequently lost to eventual champion Bai Yulu.

With no ranking points to defend until February 2027, the Indian player has an opportunity to consolidate her position among the world’s top eight through consistent performances in upcoming tournaments.

The Australian Women’s Open is the second ranking event on the World Women’s Snooker (WWS) Tour. The seventh edition of the tournament has attracted a record 29 players, the largest field since the event joined the international calendar in 2018. The previous highest entry was 27 players, recorded when the competition was held in New South Wales two years ago.

Anupama began playing snooker in 2015 after being introduced to the sport at a summer camp. She made her World Women’s Snooker Tour debut at the 2023 World Cup in Thailand, where she won the title alongside Indian compatriot Amee Kamani.

Her breakthrough in individual competition came in August 2024, when she reached the final of the US Women’s Open in Seattle, finishing runner-up to Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee. Before that achievement, she had reached the quarterfinals of four consecutive world-ranking tournaments.

Anupama also reached the quarterfinals of the World Women’s Snooker Championship in March 2024, losing 1-4 to three-time champion Ng On Yee in China. She repeated the quarterfinal appearance in 2025 before exiting in the round of 16 at the 2026 edition.

The Australian Women’s Open bronze adds another significant result to Anupama’s growing international career and strengthens her standing among the leading players on the women’s snooker circuit.
