New Delhi, September 2026 : The BJP, which has been facing criticism over the alleged slapping incident involving Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma, on Tuesday allegedly avoided facing questions from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House, Leader of Opposition Ankush Narang claimed.
Narang alleged that security personnel initially tried to prevent AAP councillors from entering the House at the behest of the BJP. He said that when AAP councillors attempted to raise the issue of the alleged slapping incident involving Verma and illegal paying guest (PG) accommodations, the BJP had the House proceedings adjourned.
“The BJP is displaying hooliganism in Delhi, from the streets to the House,” Narang said, demanding that the BJP expel Verma from the party and make him publicly apologise for the alleged incident.
The AAP leader alleged that security guards deployed by the BJP-ruled MCD attempted to stop AAP councillors from entering the House. He accused BJP leaders and workers of displaying arrogance in their conduct and said that their behaviour reflected an unwillingness to face questions.
Narang alleged that BJP workers had been encouraged to respond to questions with aggression. “Their leaders have instilled such values in their workers that whenever someone asks a question, the immediate response is to slap them,” he said.
He alleged that Verma had publicly slapped a 22-year-old Gen-Z youth in front of cameras and that the minister’s security personnel subsequently intervened. Narang questioned why an FIR had allegedly not been registered over the incident and said the victim and AAP leaders had been approaching the Vikas Puri police station, DCP office and Police Commissioner seeking action.
He also alleged that when Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh inspected a road and highlighted alleged corruption by showing the poor condition of the road, an FIR was instead registered against him.
Narang termed the developments as an example of what he described as “BJP’s hooliganism” and demanded that Verma be immediately suspended from the party. He also called for Verma to publicly apologise to the young man and for an immediate inquiry into the incident.
Narang further alleged that when AAP councillors entered the MCD House, the Deputy Mayor abruptly adjourned the proceedings. He claimed BJP leaders feared that AAP councillors would raise the issue of alleged illegal PG accommodations in areas such as Satya Niketan and one allegedly linked to BJP MLA Anil Sharma.
He alleged that some BJP leaders themselves operated such PG accommodations and collected rent of up to Rs 6 lakh per month. Narang also alleged the existence of a nexus involving BJP leaders, legislators, councillors and MCD officials, which he claimed was responsible for several incidents in Delhi.
In a post on X, Narang said the BJP had become increasingly arrogant after coming to power in Delhi. He alleged that Verma’s reported slapping of a 22-year-old who was raising questions raised serious concerns about democratic values and the conduct expected from elected representatives.
“The BJP’s four-engine government should answer whether people’s questions will now be answered with slaps,” Narang said, reiterating his demand that Verma be suspended and expelled from the BJP and publicly apologise to the youth.
Narang also accused the BJP-ruled MCD of following a “double standard” in its action against illegal PG accommodations and unauthorised construction. He questioned how impartial action could be expected when allegations involved people connected with those in power.
“The House functions through questions, not through locks and pressure,” Narang said, adding that the BJP would have to answer the questions being raised.
He said the AAP would continue to raise issues concerning Delhi residents, both on the streets and inside the House.
