English version cleared by CBFC without cuts, while Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions await certification
Mumbai, Sept 2026 : The theatrical release of the much-anticipated Korean sci-fi thriller ‘HOPE’ in India has been postponed, with the film now scheduled to hit cinemas on October 23, 2026.
The drama was originally slated for an Indian theatrical release on September 25. The postponement has been attributed to the additional time required for screening and the certification process by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The English version of ‘HOPE’ has now received CBFC approval without any cuts. The certification process for the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions, however, is currently underway.
The film is presented by Plus M Entertainment and backed by Forged Films, Plus M Entertainment and Westworld. In India, it is being released through Star Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
The worldwide release of ‘HOPE’ is scheduled for November, with the film set to open in several international markets in the coming weeks. It is scheduled to premiere this week in the UK, Sweden, Switzerland and Ireland, followed by releases in Argentina, Germany, France and Spain in October, along with other territories.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Na Hong-jin, ‘HOPE’ marks his return with a science-fiction thriller set in a remote port town. The director is known for acclaimed films such as ‘The Chaser’, ‘The Yellow Sea’ and ‘The Wailing’.
The story revolves around the discovery of an unidentified object in the isolated town. The mysterious find sets off a series of dangerous and unexpected events, placing the residents at the centre of an escalating crisis.
The film boasts an international ensemble cast featuring South Korean stars Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon, alongside Hollywood actors Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Taylor Kitsch.
‘HOPE’ had its world premiere at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on May 17. The film has also made an impact in the US market, where it has reportedly crossed $7 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing Korean film in the country.
Hong Kyung-pyo serves as the cinematographer, while Kim Sun-min is credited with editing. With its high-profile cast, acclaimed director and international scale, ‘HOPE’ is among the Korean films generating significant anticipation across global markets.
