Chandrababu Naidu to Seek Centre’s Approval for Visakhapatnam Metro, Beach Corridor Projects

Amaravati, October 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Union Ministers during his two-day visit to New Delhi to seek central approval and support for key infrastructure, irrigation and development projects in the state.

Naidu, who left for the national capital on Wednesday, is scheduled to meet Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and other Union Ministers.

According to an official statement, the Chief Minister will seek approval for the proposed Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project and Beach Corridor projects. He will also urge the Prime Minister to initiate steps towards implementing a river-linking project in Andhra Pradesh.

With the state facing drought-like conditions attributed to the impact of El Niño, Naidu will request special financial assistance from the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to help address the situation and provide relief.

The Chief Minister will also seek central support from Modi and Sitharaman for organising the Godavari Pushkarams scheduled for next year, an important religious event that draws large numbers of devotees to the river.

During his meeting with the Union Finance Minister, Naidu is expected to discuss measures to advance the proposed Rayalaseema Global Horticulture Hub, a major investment initiative aimed at transforming the drought-prone region through agricultural development.

Last week, Naidu and Sitharaman laid the foundation stone for the Global Horticulture Hub and the Indian School of Agriculture at Madanapalle in Annamayya district.

The Chief Minister has said the horticulture hub, proposed to be developed with an investment of Rs 1 lakh crore, would help transform Rayalaseema from a drought-affected region into an area of greater economic prosperity.

The project is expected to strengthen horticulture-based economic activity and support agricultural development in the region.

Naidu will also hold discussions with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil on improving the utilisation of Godavari floodwater that currently flows into the sea. The proposed river-linking initiatives are expected to be part of these discussions, with the state seeking ways to conserve and channel water for productive use.

The meetings form part of the Andhra Pradesh government’s efforts to secure central assistance for infrastructure development, water management and regional economic growth.

On Thursday, Naidu will participate in the curtain-raiser event for the CII Partnership Conference in New Delhi alongside Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The event is being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The Chief Minister is scheduled to return to Amaravati on Thursday night after concluding his engagements in the national capital.
