Delhi Capitals Appoint Yuvraj Singh as Assistant and Batting Coach Ahead of IPL 2027

New Delhi, Oct 2026 : Delhi Capitals on Tuesday announced the appointment of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as the franchise’s assistant and batting coach ahead of the 2027 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The appointment marks Yuvraj’s first formal coaching assignment and his return to a franchise he represented during his playing career.

The 44-year-old, one of India’s most celebrated limited-overs cricketers, brings extensive international experience, a proven record of performing under pressure and a reputation for mentoring emerging talent. Having played a crucial role in India’s triumphs at the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, Yuvraj is expected to strengthen Delhi Capitals’ coaching setup and help develop the team’s batting resources.

Yuvraj represented India in 304 One-Day Internationals, 40 Tests and 58 T20 Internationals. In recent years, he has also mentored several established and promising Indian players, earning recognition for his ability to guide young cricketers and share his understanding of the game.

His appointment also brings back memories of his association with the Delhi franchise. In 2015, when the team was known as Delhi Daredevils, the franchise acquired Yuvraj for a record Rs 16 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history at the time. He featured in all 14 matches for the side that season.

Speaking about his new responsibility, Yuvraj said he was excited to begin a new chapter in his career with Delhi Capitals, adding that his longstanding association with the franchise and familiarity with its owners made the opportunity particularly special.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches,” he said, referring to former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

Yuvraj added that coaching was something he was genuinely passionate about and expressed eagerness to work with the franchise’s talented squad. He said he looked forward to contributing to the team’s success and making the new assignment an exciting journey.

Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal, who is also the founder of JSW Sports, welcomed the former India all-rounder, describing him as one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Yuvi to the Delhi Capitals family. Yuvi is one of Indian cricket’s greatest match-winners and someone who has played a pivotal role in mentoring many of the brightest young talents in Indian cricket today,” Jindal said.

He added that Yuvraj’s experience, winning mentality and ability to connect with players would be valuable assets for the squad. Jindal also expressed confidence that his return would be a special moment for the franchise and looked forward to seeing him work alongside Ganguly and the coaching staff.

Kiran Kumar Grandhi, co-owner of Delhi Capitals and founder of GMR Sports, said Yuvraj’s remarkable playing career, competitive spirit and deep understanding of cricket made him a valuable addition to the coaching team.

Grandhi noted that the appointment represented Yuvraj’s first formal coaching role in the IPL and said the franchise was confident that his insights, winning mindset and mentoring abilities would make a meaningful difference to its players and campaign.

During his IPL career, Yuvraj played 132 matches, scored 2,750 runs and claimed 36 wickets. His appointment adds a World Cup-winning perspective to Delhi Capitals’ preparations as the franchise looks ahead to IPL 2027, with expectations that his experience and guidance will help strengthen the team’s batting and overall performance.
