Dharam Yudh Morcha Delegation Meets Punjab CM, Seeks SIT Probe into Sexual Abuse Case Against Amarjit Singh Chawla

Chandigarh, October 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday assured a delegation of the ‘Dharam Yudh Morcha’, led by Gurpreet Singh Khalsa, that the state government would ensure an immediate, transparent and thorough investigation into the incident reported in Sri Anandpur Sahib.

The Chief Minister said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would be constituted immediately to conduct an in-depth probe and that strict action would be taken against anyone found guilty. The assurance came amid repeated representations by Sikh organisations seeking an SIT investigation into the matter.

During the meeting, Mann also reiterated the state government’s commitment to conducting the long-pending elections to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) without unnecessary delay. He said all issues concerning the Sikh community would be addressed through timely action and appropriate legal and constitutional procedures.

Sharing details of the meeting on X, Mann said he had held an important discussion in Chandigarh with Gurpreet Singh Khalsa, leader of the Dharam Yudh Morcha being held in Batala. He said several important issues concerning the Sikh community were discussed openly.

Mann said the government was committed to ensuring that the long-pending SGPC elections were conducted at the earliest without unnecessary delay. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident at Sri Anandpur Sahib, he assured the delegation that an SIT would be constituted immediately for a detailed investigation and that the inquiry would be completed at the earliest.

Taking serious note of the concerns raised by the delegation, the Chief Minister said the state government would ensure that the investigation remained fair, transparent and time-bound.

“Law will take its course and no person, irrespective of their position or influence, will be allowed to interfere in the process of justice,” Mann said.

He added that the formation of an SIT would accelerate the investigation and ensure that all relevant aspects of the case were examined in detail.

Strict Action Against Those Found Guilty

Assuring the delegation of firm action, Mann said that once the investigation was completed, strict action would be taken in accordance with the law against anyone found guilty.

The Chief Minister described the alleged offence as extremely unfortunate and said that such an incident occurring at the sacred land of Sri Anandpur Sahib was deeply distressing.

He said the state government would ensure exemplary punishment for anyone found responsible for the alleged crime.

Mann further said that perpetrators of such offences would not be entitled to leniency and would face strict punishment under the law so that such action could serve as a deterrent to others.

Commitment to SGPC Elections

On the long-pending SGPC elections, Mann reiterated that there should be no unnecessary delay in conducting the polls.

He said the state government would take all legitimate steps falling within its jurisdiction to facilitate the process.

The Chief Minister also emphasised the historical and rich heritage of the Sikh community and said issues concerning Sikh institutions and the wider community should be addressed with sensitivity, seriousness and in accordance with constitutional and legal procedures.

The meeting comes amid the Dharam Yudh Morcha’s efforts to seek a detailed investigation into the Sri Anandpur Sahib incident and action against those found responsible.

Mann assured the delegation that the government would ensure that the investigation was conducted independently and transparently and that the law would take its course based on the findings of the SIT.

The government’s assurance also covered the broader concerns raised by Sikh organisations, including the demand for timely SGPC elections and appropriate resolution of issues concerning Sikh institutions through due legal and constitutional processes.
