Pulivendula, Nov 2026 : YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy staged a protest outside the Returning Officer’s office in Pulivendula, demanding fresh polling in all 80 booths of the municipality amid allegations that his party’s polling agents were prevented from entering several polling stations.
Jagan went to the Returning Officer’s office to raise the issue directly and seek intervention. However, officials did not allow him to enter the premises. In protest, he sat outside the office and demanded that the election process be conducted fairly and that authorised YSRCP agents be allowed inside polling booths.
In a representation submitted to the Returning Officer, the former Chief Minister sought cancellation of the entire polling process and re-polling in all 80 booths of Pulivendula Municipality, located in Andhra Pradesh’s YSR Kadapa district.
Jagan alleged that YSRCP polling agents had been permitted to function in only 10 of the 80 booths. In the remaining 70, he claimed, persons allegedly associated with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had forcibly prevented authorised agents from entering polling stations and torn their authorisation forms.
“These incidents represent serious violations of the safeguards necessary for free, fair and transparent elections,” Jagan said.
He argued that the alleged obstruction at 70 booths raised serious questions about the integrity of the municipality-wide electoral process. He further alleged that TDP workers had been brought to Pulivendula from other areas and that police and other officials had supported the actions.
The YSRCP chief called for an immediate inquiry into the reported incidents across the municipality. He sought the preservation of CCTV footage, polling records and other relevant evidence, along with the recording of statements from affected polling agents and Presiding Officers.
Jagan also urged the Returning Officer to refer the matter immediately to the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission, recommending a re-poll in all 80 booths. He called for appropriate legal action against anyone found responsible and adequate security and protection for polling agents during any fresh polling.
Earlier, soon after arriving in his hometown, Jagan met YSRCP cadres who were allegedly attacked by TDP workers. The party claimed that the incidents formed part of efforts to intimidate its workers and disrupt the polling process.
Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy and other YSRCP leaders joined Jagan in the protest outside the Returning Officer’s office.
The allegations made by the YSRCP chief were not independently verified. The party has sought an official inquiry and action by the election authorities to address its concerns over the conduct of polling in Pulivendula.
