Kathmandu, Oct 2026 : The chiefs of Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF) and India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) will meet in Kathmandu on October 28-29 to discuss border security, cross-border crimes and measures to strengthen cooperation between the two forces, officials said on Tuesday.
The 10th annual coordination meeting will focus on key security concerns, including the movement of third-country nationals, human trafficking, cross-border criminal activities and boundary-related issues, a senior APF official said.
Nepal APF Inspector General Narayan Dutta Poudyal and SSB Director General Sanjay Singhal will lead their respective delegations at the two-day meeting.
During his visit to Nepal, Singhal is also expected to pay courtesy calls on Home Minister Sudan Gurung and Home Secretary Kedarnath Sharma and hold discussions with other senior officials.
The agenda will include joint border patrols, maintenance of boundary pillars, disaster preparedness and response, and measures to curb the smuggling of illicit substances. Both sides will also review the implementation of previous agreements, strengthen inter-agency coordination and explore future areas of cooperation.
Officials said the meeting would provide an opportunity to improve coordinated border management and develop effective strategies to prevent transnational crimes along the Nepal-India border.
The two forces are expected to discuss ways to enhance real-time intelligence sharing and improve coordination in addressing emerging security challenges.
The approximately 1,750-km Nepal-India border is largely open, facilitating movement between the two neighbouring countries. However, the open border also presents challenges related to illegal activities, human trafficking and the movement of criminals.
The annual coordination mechanism aims to strengthen mutual cooperation, improve operational coordination and ensure more effective border security management between Nepal and India.
