THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Oct 2026 : Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Saturday strongly criticised an Instagram video allegedly posted by an out-of-state vlogger for spreading misinformation about Fort Kochi, asserting that attempts to malign Kerala and create communal divisions would not be tolerated.
In a social media post, Satheesan emphasised that Kerala remained united and that communal hatred had no place in the state. He described the video as an attempt to mislead the public and disturb the social fabric of Fort Kochi and Kerala.
“A case has been registered, and the law will take its course,” Satheesan said, underlining that the matter would be dealt with through the legal process.
The Chief Minister asserted that the United Democratic Front (UDF) remained committed to protecting communal harmony and ensuring justice without fear or favour. Stressing Kerala's tradition of peaceful coexistence, he said no one would be allowed to undermine the state's social unity.
“A New Era for God's Own Country. No room for hate,” he wrote in his post.
Police Investigation Under Way
The controversy has drawn attention to concerns over social media content that allegedly misrepresents local situations and could trigger communal tensions. Police have registered a case in connection with the video, and an investigation is under way.
The allegations have not only raised questions about the content shared online but also prompted renewed calls to prevent misinformation from affecting community relations.
Fort Kochi, a prominent tourist destination in Ernakulam district, is known for its multicultural character, historic landmarks and diverse communities. The area attracts visitors for its heritage, architecture and cultural significance.
Satheesan's remarks reflect the UDF leadership's stated position that local issues should not be exploited to create divisions or damage Kerala's reputation for social harmony.
Focus on Communal Harmony
Political leaders in Kerala have repeatedly stressed the importance of preserving the state's tradition of coexistence amid concerns about divisive narratives circulating on social media.
The latest incident has renewed debate over the responsibility of online content creators when reporting on sensitive social issues, particularly when videos are widely circulated without adequate context.
Satheesan maintained that the government would not permit attempts to disturb communal peace and reiterated that legal procedures would be followed in the case.
Further developments are expected as the police investigation progresses. Authorities will examine the allegations and determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with the law.
