Aug 2026 : With the aim of making Punjab’s cities clean, green and healthy, the Bhagwant Mann government on Saturday launched the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ campaign across urban areas of the state. The special 10-day cleanliness drive will run from August 29 to September 7, with cabinet ministers, MLAs, mayors, municipal councillors and senior officials personally visiting areas every morning to review sanitation arrangements and accelerate cleanliness work.
Based on the commitment of ‘Clean Punjab, Proud Punjab’, the campaign will focus particularly on identifying and eliminating garbage hotspots — places where waste is repeatedly dumped. Special teams will thoroughly clean these locations and ensure that garbage does not accumulate there again.
Harjot Singh Bains Leads Cleanliness Drive in Nangal
Local Bodies Minister Harjot Singh Bains led the campaign in Nangal, Sri Anandpur Sahib. He personally participated in the cleanliness activities and interacted with sanitation workers and local residents.
The minister said that ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ reflects the Punjab government's commitment to providing its people with clean and healthy cities. He stressed that cleanliness cannot be the responsibility of sanitation workers alone and called upon citizens, shopkeepers and local communities to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.
“This campaign will not remain limited to one-time cleaning. Its focus will be on creating a sustainable cleanliness system, with regular monitoring and action at locations where garbage is repeatedly dumped,” Bains said. He also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the administration and refrain from throwing waste in public places.
Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan Honours Sanitation Workers in Kotkapura
Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also launched the campaign in Kotkapura. He honoured sanitation workers for their contribution towards keeping the city clean and later joined them in the cleanliness activities.
Sandhwan said that under Mission Clean Punjab, secondary waste collection centres and garbage dumping points in Kotkapura and other parts of Faridkot district would be thoroughly cleaned. He described the campaign as a joint effort involving sanitation workers, district administration, municipal councils and officials from all concerned departments.
He said lists of sanitation workers deployed in different wards, along with their colleagues and supervisors, had been prepared. To ensure greater transparency and accountability, these details would be made available on the government portal.
Appealing to people to actively participate in the campaign, Sandhwan said public support would be essential to ensure that the results of the drive continue even after the 10-day campaign concludes.
Ministers and MLAs Lead Campaign Across Punjab
Several ministers and elected representatives participated in the state-wide campaign across different cities. Public representatives joined cleanliness activities and personally inspected sanitation arrangements at the ground level.
Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh led the campaign by personally cleaning the area around Thapar Chowk in Patiala. Highlighting the connection between cleanliness and public health, he said garbage and unhygienic surroundings can become a major cause of the spread of diseases.
Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat participated in the cleanliness drive near Nakodar Chowk in Jalandhar, while Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO led the campaign in Jandiala Guru along with the municipal council president, councillors and sanitation workers. He appealed to residents and shopkeepers to consider maintaining cleanliness a shared civic responsibility.
Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund launched the campaign from the Khanna Municipal Council office. MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa also initiated the drive in Baltana, Zirakpur, along with municipal councillors, ward in-charges and officials, with a focus on making Zirakpur clean and free of garbage.
In Amritsar, MLA Dr Ajay Gupta and Mayor Jatinder Pal Singh Moti Bhatia led the cleanliness campaign. In Fatehgarh Sahib, MLA Advocate Lakhbir Singh Rai led the drive launched by the Sirhind Municipal Council.
MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj participated in the cleanliness campaign along the route from Khanda Chowk through Haripura to Puniya Tower in Sangrur. She also joined the drive at Toor Patti Park in Bhawanigarh.
In Moga, MLA Dr Amandeep Kaur Arora and Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia led the cleanliness campaign. MLA Rupinder Singh Happy and SDM Deepjot Kaur inspected the drive in Bassi Pathana, while MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal supervised cleanliness activities in Phagwara.
In Ajnala, MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal led the campaign, with the participation of the SDM, Executive Officer and AAP volunteers. Garbage heaps were removed from several locations during the drive.
Citizens Can Report Garbage Spots Through M-Seva App
The Punjab government has also sought active participation from citizens in Mission Clean Punjab. Residents will be able to send photographs of garbage and unhygienic locations in their neighbourhoods through the M-Seva app. This will help authorities identify problem areas and take timely action.
The government has appealed to citizens not to dump waste in public places and to cooperate with municipal corporations and councils in maintaining cleanliness around homes and commercial establishments.
The objective of ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ is not merely to clean cities for 10 days. The government says the broader aim is to strengthen the urban sanitation system and establish a lasting culture of cleanliness across Punjab.
