Jaipur Has Received 103 e-Buses So Far; Process Underway to Get Another 450 e-Buses and 50 Double-Decker e-Buses
Jaipur, October 2026 : Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PM e-Bus Sewa initiative is serving as the foundation for a major transformation in the country’s urban transport sector by promoting clean energy, environmental protection, and modern public transport. In Rajasthan, continuous efforts are underway under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for the effective implementation of the scheme, the operation of electric buses, and the development of necessary infrastructure.
As a green urban mobility initiative, the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme focuses on cities with a population of 3 lakh and above (as per the 2011 census). A total of 675 electric buses were initially approved for eight cities in Rajasthan. However, through the special efforts and strong management of CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, additional buses were sanctioned, bringing the total approved e-buses for Rajasthan to 1,150 across 9 cities.
Allocations across cities include:
• Jaipur: 550 e-buses
• Jodhpur: 125 e-buses
• Ajmer & Kota: 100 e-buses each
• Bikaner: 75 e-buses
• Bhilwara, Alwar, Udaipur & Sikar: 50 e-buses each
The state has received 250 e-buses so far. Out of these, 103 buses have been handed over to JCTSL (Jaipur City Transport Services Limited) for Jaipur. While 58 buses are currently being operated from the Bagrana depot, operations of the remaining buses from the Todi depot will commence soon.
e-Buses Equipped with Technology like CCTV and Panic Buttons
Equipped with modern technology, these e-buses will play a crucial role in ensuring affordable and comfortable travel for senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities. Additionally, CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and safety equipment installed in the buses will ensure women's safety.
Focus on Developing Depots and Charging Infrastructure
In compliance with the Budget Announcement 2025–26, the process of acquiring the remaining 450 e-buses and 50 double-decker e-buses is being carried out by JCTSL. The objective of the state government is not limited merely to purchasing and making buses available, but to build a comprehensive system that ensures regular bus operations and accessible public transport services for passengers.
In this direction, alongside bus availability, attention is also being paid to strengthening bus depots, charging stations, electrical connections, and operational arrangements. Depots have been established in Bagrana, Todi Mor, and Sanganer in Jaipur for the smooth operation of e-buses. Furthermore, land has been allocated by the state government for depots at Ralawata near Goner, Khatwada on Ajmer Road, and Achrol on Delhi Road. The central government has approved more than ₹60 crore for developing charging and other electrical infrastructure in bus depots, and more than ₹53 crore for developing the civil infrastructure of the bus depots.
