Telangana to Fill All Police Vacancies by 2028, CM Revanth Reddy Announces Major Increase in Ex Gratia for Martyrs’ Families

Hyderabad, October 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday announced that the state government would fill all existing vacancies in the Police Department by 2028, with steps initiated to recruit another 5,000 personnel. He said strengthening the police force was a top priority, as effective law and order was essential for the state's development.

Addressing the Police Commemoration Parade on the occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day at Goshamahal Stadium in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister paid tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He said their contribution to maintaining peace and protecting society would always be remembered.

“We can never forget their sacrifices in upholding law and order. The families of these martyrs are not alone; the government stands firmly by their side,” Reddy said.

The Chief Minister announced a substantial increase in ex gratia payments to the families of police personnel who lose their lives while performing their duties. The compensation for police constables has been raised from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 1 crore. For Head Constables and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, the amount has been increased from Rs 45 lakh to Rs 1 crore.

For Sub-Inspectors and Inspectors, the compensation has been enhanced to Rs 1.25 crore from Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, respectively. Families of personnel holding the ranks of Deputy Superintendent of Police and Additional Superintendent of Police will receive Rs 1.5 crore, while compensation for Superintendents of Police and Indian Police Service officers has been increased from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore.

Reddy also directed the Director General of Police to increase the ex gratia payment for the families of Home Guards who die in the line of duty from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

He said the enhanced compensation was not merely financial assistance but also a gesture of respect and gratitude towards the families of those who had made the supreme sacrifice. The government, he assured, remained committed to the welfare of police personnel and the future of their families.

Major Recruitment and Welfare Initiatives

Highlighting recruitment efforts, Reddy said the appointment of personnel to 112 Deputy Superintendent of Police posts was unprecedented in Telangana's history. He said the government was also taking steps to promote inclusion by appointing transgender persons as traffic assistants, helping strengthen their dignity and self-respect in society.

The Chief Minister said the government had established the ‘Young India Police School’ to provide educational opportunities to the children of police personnel, covering families from the Home Guard level to those of officers serving as DGP.

He stressed that the government recognised the sacrifices made by police personnel and was working to ensure that their families received better support and access to education.

Modernising Police and Tackling Drug Abuse

Observing that the nature of crime was changing rapidly, Reddy said the government was committed to modernising the Police Department and equipping it to deal with emerging challenges through advanced technology.

“Regardless of how advanced technology becomes, the human-centric approach of the police force must remain unchanged,” he said, emphasising that technology should strengthen policing without compromising its people-oriented character.

Expressing concern over the spread of drugs and cannabis, commonly known as ganja, the Chief Minister said every effort must be made to prevent young people from falling prey to substance abuse. He praised DGP C.V. Anand and the ‘Eagle Force’ for their efforts to control the drug menace.

Reddy also referred to the creation of ‘TG-SAFE’, an initiative aimed at adopting a stringent approach towards food adulteration and protecting public health.

Focus on Women's and Children's Safety

The Chief Minister said the government was further strengthening women's safety through the continued operation of ‘SHE Teams’, which work to prevent harassment and improve security for women.

He noted that the ‘Stand With Her’ initiative was launched in March to encourage greater social responsibility in supporting women. In April, the government introduced ‘Spandana’, a network of Immediate Protection Teams designed to provide prompt assistance to women and children during emergencies.

Reddy called upon police officials to handle cases involving women and children with sensitivity and ensure that victims did not face delays in securing justice.

DGP C.V. Anand and other senior police officials attended the Police Commemoration Parade, which honoured the courage, dedication and sacrifice of police personnel who laid down their lives in the service of the state and its people.
