US President claims Moscow will supply more than 4.8 million tonnes of diesel in phases, linking the proposed arrangement to lower energy costs for American farmers, ranchers and truckers.
Washington, October 2026 : US President Donald Trump has announced what he described as a major agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin under which Moscow would supply millions of tonnes of diesel to the United States and global markets, predicting a sharp decline in fuel prices.
Trump said on Friday that he had concluded a telephone conversation with Putin, during which Russia had agreed to begin supplying diesel immediately, followed by additional shipments in November and subsequent months.
The announcement comes as the Trump administration seeks to reduce energy costs for American consumers, particularly farmers, ranchers and truckers, while maintaining its position that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
“I have just concluded a highly successful discussion with President Vladimir Putin, of Russia,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
According to the US President, Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to American and international markets. A further 500,000 tonnes would be delivered during November, followed by an additional one million tonnes immediately thereafter.
Trump said Russia would subsequently supply another three million tonnes, depending on the condition of its refining facilities.
Taken together, the quantities announced by Trump amount to more than 4.8 million tonnes of diesel across the proposed stages of the arrangement. However, the President did not provide details of the delivery schedule beyond the initial phases, the commercial terms of the agreement or the mechanisms through which the shipments would reach their intended markets.
Trump linked the proposed Russian diesel supplies to what he described as American control over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important maritime passage through which substantial volumes of international energy supplies move.
“Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!” he said.
The President presented the two developments as central to his efforts to bring down diesel prices in the United States and international markets. He did not, however, provide independent evidence or a specific estimate of the expected price reduction.
Trump placed particular emphasis on the burden of fuel costs on American agriculture and transportation. Diesel is a major operating expense for farm machinery, heavy vehicles and freight transportation, making price movements important for farmers, ranchers and trucking businesses.
“Lower prices for Americans, especially our Great Farmers, Ranchers, and Truckers, is my Greatest Priority,” he said.
Describing the proposed arrangement as an important development in his administration’s energy policy, Trump added, “This is a very big and important announcement.”
The President also reiterated his position on Iran’s nuclear programme, linking the energy announcement to his administration’s wider regional security priorities.
“Additionally, it must be understood, that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon!” he said.
Trump did not explain whether Iran’s nuclear programme had figured in his telephone conversation with Putin or whether the two leaders had reached any understanding on the issue.
Further details about the proposed diesel arrangement, including delivery logistics, commercial terms and the extent of Russia’s commitments, were not provided in the announcement. The projected impact on fuel prices will depend on the implementation of the proposed supplies and broader market conditions.
