Chief Minister reviews infrastructure projects at War Room meeting, directs authorities to accelerate metro and elevated corridor works
Mumbai, October 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed authorities to make 2027 the ‘Metro Year’ by completing at least 70 km of metro corridors next year, including pending works from the current year.
Chairing a meeting of the Chief Minister’s War Room established to monitor infrastructure projects, Fadnavis said work on metro corridors must be expedited to achieve the target. He directed officials to expand the scope of metro corridors expected to be completed by December 2026 from the currently planned 36 km to 50 km by accelerating construction.
He also directed that at least 50 per cent of infrastructure project work should be based on mechanisation to ensure timely completion. Authorities should ensure the availability of skilled workers and use mechanisation to address labour shortages, he said.
The meeting was held at Sahyadri Guest House to review various infrastructure projects. Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal was also present.
Special Road Block for Metro 2B Work
Fadnavis directed officials to plan a 12-hour special road block on a Sunday, if required, to complete the girder work near Juhu Circle on Metro Line 2B between D.N. Nagar and Chembur. A decision on the next road block should be taken after assessing the progress of the work.
He stressed that the work should be planned in a manner that causes minimum inconvenience to citizens.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to complete the connection of the Sewri-Worli elevated corridor before May 31, 2027, and make the road available to the public.
He said advance planning should be undertaken whenever a new road is connected to an existing road to prevent traffic congestion at the junction. He also directed authorities to urgently find technology-based solutions to traffic congestion at Vakola Junction and identify congestion-prone locations along the Western Express Highway for necessary corrective measures.
Updated Mapping of Underground Utilities
Fadnavis directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and other agencies to undertake updated mapping of underground civic utility infrastructure.
He said a system should be developed under which information about underground utilities is easily accessible whenever civic or infrastructure works are undertaken, thereby reducing the time required to complete projects.
He also emphasised the safety of citizens and workers at construction sites. Officials were directed to install proper signboards, barricades and other safety measures at project locations.
The Chief Minister further proposed creating a dedicated company to provide comprehensive safety arrangements at project sites and developing a new low-cost business model for such services.
Tap Connections for Every Household in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Fadnavis directed officials to ensure that every household receives a tap connection as part of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar water supply project.
He said the work should be planned in such a way that roads and other areas do not have to be excavated again for providing connections. Agencies should ensure that contractors complete projects according to the prescribed objectives rather than merely carrying out the minimum required work.
The Chief Minister warned that contractors responsible for delays or failure to complete projects even after the stipulated completion period could face blacklisting.
He also directed officials to expedite land acquisition and court-related procedures for Metro Line 6 between Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli.
Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Vikas Kharage, Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) K. Govindraj, MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Sanjay Mukherjee and Additional Chief Secretary (Water Supply) Parag Jain were among those present.
