CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Sets 100-Day Roadmap to Transform Rajasthan Cities

Urban local bodies directed to complete road, sanitation and basic infrastructure works before Diwali and work towards clean, beautiful and developed cities

Jaipur, October 2026: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday held discussions with newly elected mayors, chairpersons and presidents of urban local bodies at the Chief Minister’s residence on a 100-day roadmap for urban development and improvement of civic services.

During the meeting, Sharma directed officials to complete all works related to cleanliness, roads, electricity, streetlights, sewerage, drains, painting and beautification within one month and before Diwali.

The Chief Minister said planned development of cities must be ensured to provide better urban facilities to residents. He called for special attention to issues such as sanitation, waste collection and disposal, roads, waterlogging, streetlights, beautification, maintenance of parks, stray cattle, encroachments and sewerage.

He directed local authorities to resolve public grievances promptly and work towards transforming the appearance and functioning of Rajasthan’s cities within 100 days.

Urban Local Body Posts Are a Mission of Public Service

Sharma instructed heads of urban local bodies to regularly visit their respective areas, review civic arrangements, coordinate with officials, check the quality of development works and ensure their timely implementation.

He stressed that development should not remain limited to preparing plans but must ensure that the benefits reach ordinary citizens.

Representation in urban local bodies is not merely a position but a mission of public service, Sharma said, urging elected representatives to work with sensitivity towards people’s problems.

The Chief Minister said elected urban body representatives must fulfil public expectations, which would be possible only through dedicated and sincere efforts towards planned urban development.

He said people had elected urban governments for development and therefore should be able to experience visible improvements. Urban body heads should lay the foundation for projects and initiatives that establish new benchmarks in urban development, he added.

Strengthen Finances and Increase Revenue

Sharma said urban local bodies not only provide basic services to citizens but also play an important role in determining the future development and overall condition of cities.

He issued special directions for efficient financial management and said urban local bodies should strengthen their financial position and increase their revenue.

He also called upon civic representatives to work with transparency, accountability and integrity and follow a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.

The Chief Minister urged councillors to rise above individual ward boundaries and adopt a collective approach towards the development of the entire city.

He said planning for roads, sewerage and other civic facilities should be based on the requirements of the entire city rather than being undertaken separately for individual wards.

He also stressed the need for phased development plans for urban local bodies.

Focus on Modern and Citizen-Friendly Cities

Sharma said the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had undertaken several long-term initiatives to make cities modern and convenient, including the Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban, AMRUT and the Smart Cities Mission.

These initiatives are linking urban development with technology and citizen-centric services and are helping create models of planned urban development, he said.

The Chief Minister said the state government was also providing economic support to needy people in urban areas by offering 125 days of employment as unskilled workers.

He said Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs) had been established in 188 urban local bodies, along with free desludging services.

The state has also launched the Developed Ward Campaign to promote planned development of cities, Sharma said.

“Our objective is to provide better facilities and services in the cities of Rajasthan and develop them to international standards. The state government will extend full cooperation to urban local bodies for this purpose,” he said.

Minister of State for Urban Development and Local Self Government (Independent Charge) Jhabar Singh Kharra, mayors of municipal corporations, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas and senior officials of the concerned departments attended the meeting.

Deputy mayors, chairpersons, deputy chairpersons, presidents and vice-presidents of urban local bodies joined the meeting through video conference.
