CM Rekha Gupta Performs Kanya Pujan in Shalimar Bagh, 1,400 Class IX Girls Receive Bicycles

28,000 Bicycles Distributed So Far Under Vidya Vahini Scheme, Target Set at 1.5 Lakh

Kanya Pujan Is Not Just a Religious Tradition, but a Message of Respect, Equality and Recognition of Girls’ Importance: CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, October 2026 : On the occasion of Sharadiya Navratri, Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta performed Kanya Pujan at CM Shri School in Shalimar Bagh on Friday. During the programme, bicycles were distributed to around 1,400 Class IX girls studying in various government schools in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. The initiative aims to make it easier for girls to travel to school, reduce transportation-related difficulties and encourage them to continue their education. The Chief Minister also offered prayers for the girls’ bright future, happiness, prosperity and success.

CM Rekha Gupta said Kanya Pujan is not merely a religious tradition but also a message of respect for daughters, equality and recognition of their importance. In Indian culture, girls are regarded as symbols of strength, knowledge, compassion and prosperity. The true spirit of Kanya Pujan can be realised only when society not only respects girls but also ensures that they have access to education, safety, confidence and equal opportunities to move forward. Daughters are not only the pride of their families but also the foundation of society’s and the nation’s future. Families, schools and society must work together to nurture their talents, help them realise their dreams and make them self-reliant.

1,400 Bicycles, Countless Dreams and New Opportunities to Move Ahead

A total of 1,400 girls received bicycles during the programme. The initiative specifically focuses on Class IX students, as this is an important stage in their academic journey. Encouraging their aspirations, building their confidence and creating favourable conditions for them to continue their education are particularly important at this stage. Under the Vidya Vahini Scheme, 28,000 bicycles have been distributed across Delhi so far. The government aims to distribute a total of 1.5 lakh bicycles.

Parents, Teachers and Society Also Have an Important Responsibility

The Chief Minister emphasised the important role of parents, teachers and schools in ensuring that girls continue their education. She said parents must prioritise their daughters’ education and ensure their regular attendance at school. The responsibility of teachers and school heads, meanwhile, goes beyond imparting education to developing confidence, leadership skills and good values among students.

Empowering girls is not the responsibility of the government or schools alone. Every member of the family and society must contribute to ensuring that no girl is deprived of education.
