Patna, September 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Dighwara and Maner and carried out an on-ground inspection of affected villages in Vaishali district.
The Chief Minister and the Union Minister reviewed the flood situation and interacted directly with affected residents to hear their grievances. They assessed the damage caused to crops, houses and other properties due to waterlogging and flooding.
The state government has begun providing immediate assistance of Rs 7,000 per affected family. After a detailed and accurate assessment of the damage is completed, farmers and other affected families will be provided compensation as per the applicable rules.
Central Team Assessing Flood Damage
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending a central team to Bihar to assess the damage caused by the floods. The central team, led by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is conducting a detailed assessment of the losses.
During the visit, Choudhary and Chouhan first conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit areas in Dighwara in Saran district and Maner in Patna district. They then reached Vaishali district and inspected flood-affected areas in Terasia Panchayat of Raghopur block, including Terasia and Saraipur villages.
The two leaders travelled by boat through the flooded areas and assessed the condition of submerged villages and damaged crops. They subsequently travelled by tractor to Terasia and Saraipur villages, where they interacted with local residents and heard their grievances.
Villagers demanded improvements to existing roads and construction of new roads. They also sought compensation for crops damaged by the floods. The Chief Minister and the Union Agriculture Minister heard their concerns and directed officials to take necessary action for their resolution.
More Than 1 Foot of Water Reported in Area
Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the region had witnessed its biggest flood in recent years, with water levels reportedly exceeding one foot compared with the situation in 2016.
He said paddy and maize crops had been damaged after being submerged in floodwater. Around 50 lakh people across Bihar had reportedly been forced to leave their homes due to the floods. Crops and houses have suffered extensive damage, while livestock have also been affected.
Chouhan said he had arrived in Bihar on the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was reviewing the flood situation in different districts along with the Chief Minister. He said the central team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development had also arrived to assess the damage.
He assured the people of Bihar that the Centre would stand with the state government in dealing with the crisis and provide all possible assistance. Another central team will also visit the affected areas to assess the extent of damage.
State Government Begins Immediate Assistance
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the state government was fully committed to supporting flood-affected people. He said the government had already begun providing immediate assistance of Rs 7,000 per affected family.
He added that after a comprehensive and accurate assessment of the damage, farmers and other affected persons would receive compensation according to the prescribed rules.
The Chief Minister said a central team had reached Bihar under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was assessing the losses under the leadership of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He said Chouhan was continuously visiting flood-affected areas and reviewing the condition of crops and roads.
The Union Minister said he would also visit Munger and Bhagalpur. A review meeting would subsequently be held to discuss the damage caused by the floods and relief and rehabilitation measures.
Chouhan said the state government had already started providing financial assistance and that the Centre would extend all possible support after assessing the losses.
Community Kitchens and Medical Facilities Operational
During the inspection, officials informed the Chief Minister that community kitchens, healthcare facilities, boat services for transportation and other essential arrangements had been put in place in the flood-affected areas.
During the visit, the Chief Minister honoured a young boy, Vishal Kumar, by presenting him with a certificate of appreciation. Vishal had reportedly saved the lives of four people from his village during the floods.
The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending the central team to assess the flood situation. He also expressed gratitude to Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the central team for their assistance.
MLA Avadhesh Singh, former MLA Satish Kumar, other public representatives, Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, Chief Minister’s Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Water Resources Department Secretary Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, District Magistrate Varsha Singh, Superintendent of Police Shubham Mishra, other senior officials and a large number of villagers were present during the inspection.
