Deputy CM Arun Sao Reviews Development Works and Scheme Implementation in Surguja

Raipur, October 2026: Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao held a joint meeting of officials from Surguja and Surajpur districts at the divisional headquarters in Ambikapur to review the progress of development works and implementation of government schemes.

Sao reviewed the work of the Public Works Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Urban Administration and Development Department, and Sports and Youth Welfare Department. He sought detailed information on the progress of development projects, implementation of schemes and the status of departmental works.

Surguja Collector Ajit Vasant, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Agrawal and Surajpur Collector Rena Jamir were present at the meeting.

Emphasis on Timely Implementation

Sao directed officials to regularly review the progress of schemes and development works and ensure that all approved projects are completed within the stipulated time. He stressed that there should be no compromise on quality and that continuous monitoring of works must be ensured.

He also called for better coordination among departments to accelerate development activities. He said the primary objective of development works was to provide better facilities to citizens and directed officials to give the highest priority to transparency, quality and timely implementation.

Sao also instructed officials to improve office arrangements and maintain cleanliness. He emphasised that the benefits of government schemes and development works should reach ordinary citizens directly and asked officers to discharge their responsibilities with seriousness and commitment.

PMAY Projects to Be Completed by October

Reviewing urban development works and various schemes, Sao directed officials to ensure effective monitoring by urban local bodies and give priority to works related to public welfare.

He said cities represent the image and reputation of the state and districts and, therefore, civic arrangements and cleanliness must receive special attention.

He instructed officials to begin work immediately after the tender process, expedite ongoing projects and maintain construction quality. He said the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) was a priority programme and directed all Chief Municipal Officers to complete ongoing housing projects by October.

He also ordered monthly reviews of revenue collection and reviewed works under the Mukhyamantri Nagarotthan Yojana, infrastructure projects, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), PMAY-Urban, the 15th Finance Commission and rainwater harvesting initiatives.

Roads to Be Repaired Before Festivals

Reviewing Public Works Department projects, Sao stressed the need to accelerate road repair works after the monsoon and ensure that all approved works are completed within the prescribed timeframe.

He reviewed the status of buildings, roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects and warned against unnecessary delays. With the festival season approaching, he directed officials to complete quality works on time so that people do not face inconvenience.

Drinking Water Infrastructure

Sao also reviewed the functioning of the Public Health Engineering Department, including drinking water schemes and works under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted water supply, maintain the availability of water sources and resolve drinking water-related problems promptly. Pending works should be completed on priority, while drinking water infrastructure and schemes should be regularly monitored and maintained.

More Sports Activities in Primary Schools

Reviewing sports activities and infrastructure, Sao directed officials to increase sports activities in primary schools, particularly in rural areas.

He asked sports officials to prepare an action plan in coordination with district panchayat CEOs and the Education Department. He also directed authorities to identify one physical training instructor (PTI) at each school cluster to conduct sports activities.

Sao reviewed registrations for the Surguja Olympics and called for wider publicity and greater participation by sports associations and local athletes.

He said sports promote health, discipline, confidence, teamwork and creativity, and stressed the need to provide better facilities to young people while identifying and encouraging local sporting talent.

Surguja Zilla Panchayat CEO Roma Srivastava, Surajpur Zilla Panchayat CEO Vijendra Singh Patle and Ambikapur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vinay Kumar Agrawal were also present at the meeting.
