Dhruv Rathee Detained in Gurugram Ahead of CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, October 2026 : Social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was reportedly detained by Gurugram Police from his residence on Saturday ahead of a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in the national capital against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

According to a post on the CJP’s account on X, around 50 police personnel in plain clothes reached Rathee’s residence in Gurugram at approximately 8 a.m. and took him into custody. The circumstances surrounding the reported detention were not immediately clear.

Rathee had participated in a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengaluru on Thursday. He was expected to attend the CJP’s proposed demonstration in Delhi later on Saturday.

The reported detention came as Delhi Police intensified security arrangements across the national capital ahead of the planned protest. Authorities remained on high alert, with additional personnel deployed at sensitive locations and checks introduced at the city’s entry points.

Police were checking vehicles at Delhi’s borders to prevent unauthorised persons from entering New Delhi. Personnel were also equipped with body cameras to record any untoward incidents during the demonstration.

Security was strengthened around the residences of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Drone surveillance was being conducted at key locations to monitor the situation.

Several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House, were reported closed as part of the security measures.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anant Mittal visited the Aya Nagar border to review arrangements and oversee vehicle checks ahead of the protest. Police personnel were screening vehicles entering the capital as part of efforts to prevent unauthorised individuals from reaching New Delhi.

Mittal said security measures had been put in place in Delhi, including the South district, in view of the CJP’s protest call.

“Special security arrangements are in place at inter-state and inter-district borders. We are preventing unauthorised elements from entering New Delhi and checking them,” he said.

“Our effort is to ensure that everything remains peaceful and law and order is maintained,” the DCP added.

Security was also tightened at New Delhi Railway Station, where Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed. Security marches were conducted across the premises, while drones were used to monitor activity and assess the situation.

The heightened security measures reflect police preparations to prevent disruption and maintain public order during the proposed demonstration. Further details regarding Rathee’s reported detention and the circumstances leading to it were awaited.
