New Delhi, October 2026 : The Delhi Government’s Food Safety Department inspected sweet manufacturers and related establishments across the capital ahead of the festive season. The inspections revealed lapses in hygiene, cleanliness, food storage and prescribed food-handling practices at several units. Departmental teams also collected food samples from various establishments as part of enforcement and surveillance activities.

Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Government is committed to ensuring that citizens have access to safe and hygienic food, and that no one’s health is compromised amid festive celebrations. She emphasised that awareness, accountability and compliance with prescribed standards are essential to protecting public interest and public health.

Unsatisfactory Hygiene and Cleanliness

During the inspection, the Food Safety Department’s team found unsatisfactory hygiene and cleanliness arrangements at the manufacturing unit of Kali Ghata Sweets in the Vidya Vihar (Hastsal) Industrial Area. Improvements were also found necessary at its outlet in Uttam Nagar. Four samples of kesar rasbhari, aloo bhujia, ghee and palak boondi were collected from the two premises.

An inspection of Bhikaram Chandmal Private Limited in Chandni Chowk revealed several shortcomings related to hygiene and cleanliness. Samples of khoya and rasbhari were collected from the establishment. At both manufacturing units of Aman Mithaiwala in the Narela Industrial Complex, lapses were found in ensuring compliance with prescribed standards. Samples of barfi and milk cake were collected from the units.

Lapses in Licensing, Training and Documentation

The team found signs of pest activity in the storage area of Evergreen Sweet House in Okhla Phase-II. The water testing report was not available during the inspection, and employees were found handling food without gloves. Samples of boondi dana and khoya were collected from the establishment.

The department also inspected Puri Baker and Bansiwala Sweets in the Badli Industrial Area. Samples of yellow-coloured rasmalai and fat emulsion used in cake preparation were collected. During both inspections, lapses were found in the display of FSSAI licences, training of food handlers and packaging-related documentation.

Samples of Khoya, Boondi Laddoos and Kaju Bites Collected

At Grover Sweet Corner in Naraina, the Food Safety Department’s team found general hygiene satisfactory. However, inspectors noted shortcomings, including open dustbins, employees’ clothes kept in the work area and the absence of insect-proof mesh on windows. Reports related to water and product testing were also unavailable. Samples of khoya and boondi laddoos were collected.

At Singla Sweets in IP Extension, the team found peeling ceiling plaster, the absence of insect-proof mesh on windows and grease accumulation on the exhaust system. Food items stored in the freezer were also not properly segregated and labelled. The departmental team collected samples of khoya and kaju bites from the establishment.

Action to Follow Laboratory Test Reports

At Meethi Foods in Naraina, inspectors found cobwebs on the chimney, inadequate measures to prevent the entry of pests and no designated separate space for employees to keep their personal belongings. The prepared premix was also not labelled with its manufacturing date. Samples of kaju barfi and khajoor barfi were collected.

The department also reported collecting samples of pista barfi and khoya from Chaina Ram Sindhi Halwai in Chandni Chowk, kesar peda from Haldiram Marketing on Mathura Road, almonds from Bikanerwala in Okhla, and peda from Heera Sweets in the Patparganj Industrial Area. According to the department, further action regarding all these products will be taken on the basis of laboratory test reports.
