Lucknow, November 2026 : To provide the people with pure safe food items during the festivals of Diwali and Bhai Dooj, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has intensified its campaign against adulterators. Under the "Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai" campaign, intensive raids and inspections are being conducted across the state at sweet manufacturing units, shops, warehouses, and storage and sales centers for food items. So far, inspections have been carried out at 1,133 locations and 935 food samples have been taken. Licenses of 27 establishments have been suspended due to serious irregularities. Meanwhile, around 54 quintals of food items have been seized, with an estimated value of Rs 1.32 crore.

No room for adulteration in the joy of festivals
The Yogi government's "Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai" campaign is comprehensive initiative that prioritizes food safety, hygiene, and consumer health. Keeping in view the rising demand for sweets and other food items on Diwali, the department has intensified monitoring and enforcement action. Under this, the quality of food items, cleanliness of manufacturing sites, purity of raw materials, and safe storage arrangements are being checked so that there is no compromise with consumers' health during the festivals.

32 mobile squads run special campaign in bareilly and moradabad
Under the campaign, 32 mobile food squads carried out special inspection and enforcement action in Bareilly and Moradabad. In addition, inter-district teams also inspected food establishments in Kasganj, Etawah, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Kushinagar, and Shahjahanpur. During this, 98 establishments were inspected and 112 food samples were collected. Improvement notices were issued to 78 establishments upon finding irregularities. Licenses of five units were suspended, while one unit operating without a license was shut down.

Sweets made in filth, moldy food items found at some places
During the inspections, serious disregard for safety and hygiene standards came to light at several establishments. Extreme filth was found at the manufacturing unit of New Bajpai Sweets in Subhash Nagar, Bareilly. A toilet was operating right next to the furnace. The floor was broken and dirty water had accumulated on the premises. Due to these serious deficiencies, the establishment's license was suspended.
Old and moldy ghevar was found at Dheeraj Sweets & Confectionery in Kailashpuri, Bareilly. Sweets were being manufactured here under unhygienic conditions. This establishment's license was also suspended.

Use of expired material and inedible colors exposed in moradabad
At the rasgulla manufacturing unit of Hukumat Milk Cake, located near Dhakia, Dilari in Moradabad, food items were being prepared under unsafe conditions. Food material was found scattered in a contaminated state. The unit's license was suspended on this account.
Similarly, serious deficiencies such as the use of expired food material, rat droppings, and the use of inedible colors were found at Madani Sweets, near Kohinoor Tiraha. Drainage arrangements were also poor. Due to these irregularities, the establishment's license was suspended.
Meanwhile, Beena Mishthan Bhandar, located near Moradabad's Badi Sabzi Mandi, was found operating without a food license. A rodent infestation and filth were also found here. The department got the establishment shut down. Action was also taken at Pawan Sweets in Kasganj after food items were found being manufactured in filth and unhygienic conditions.

Monitoring from manufacturing to sale, special eye on temporary shops too
Under the "Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai" campaign, the department's monitoring is focused on the entire supply chain of food items. Food safety standards are being checked from manufacturing, transportation, and storage to retail sale. Officers have been given special instructions to pay attention to the quality of raw materials, cleanliness of manufacturing sites, personal hygiene of workers, and safe storage of food items.
The permissible quantity of colors and other food additives used in food items is also being checked. Special vigilance is being maintained on the use of banned chemicals and inedible colors. Along with this, the quality of sweets, their shelf life, and the information required for consumers are also being examined.
The department is also keeping a special watch on shops that operate only temporarily on festive occasions. Food safety teams are reaching such shops and checking the quality and hygiene standards of sweets. Warehouses and storage centers have also been brought within the campaign's ambit.

Opportunity for improvement, strict action in serious cases
The FSDA has instructed officers not to unnecessarily harass small and retail food business operators. On finding general and correctable issues, businesses are being issued notices and given an opportunity to set their arrangements right. Meanwhile, strict action is being taken against those engaged in adulteration, use of banned chemicals and inedible colors, serious negligence regarding hygiene, and operating without a license. According to the department's top officials, the aim of the "Shuddh Hi Shubh Hai" campaign is not to harass businesses but to deliver pure, quality, and safe food items to the public. While businesses are being given a chance to fix correctable issues, strict action will continue against serious irregularities and those who play with public health.
