Iran Warns of Wider Gulf Retaliation if US-Israel Launch Fresh Military Strikes

Tehran, Oct 2026 : Iran has warned that any renewed US-Israeli military campaign against Tehran could trigger retaliatory attacks across the Gulf, raising concerns about regional security, energy infrastructure and global oil supplies amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

According to media reports, Iranian officials have warned mediators that Tehran could expand its military response to include US military bases, warships and critical infrastructure across the region if Washington and Israel resume their attacks. Potential targets could include airports, oil facilities and other strategic installations in neighbouring Gulf countries.

The warning comes amid heightened concerns in Washington over alleged Iranian plots targeting American personnel in the Middle East and other regions.

US Intelligence Raises Security Concerns

US Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton reportedly sent a memo to Secretary of State Marco Rubio on October 23, warning that intelligence agencies had received information suggesting Iran had significantly intensified efforts to target American personnel.

“The lethal plotting efforts by the Iranians against US citizens have reached advanced stages in both the Middle East and certain other countries,” Clayton wrote in the memo, according to US officials.

The intelligence assessment has prompted Washington to review security arrangements at its diplomatic missions across the region.

The United States has reduced staffing at its embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. Earlier in the week, Washington also ordered non-essential personnel and their family members to leave its diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia amid mounting security concerns linked to attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

These developments have intensified fears of further military escalation between the United States and Iran, with diplomatic facilities and American personnel facing heightened security risks.

Trump Keeps Option of Fresh Military Action Open

Iran's warning comes as uncertainty grows over whether US President Donald Trump could authorise another round of military strikes against Tehran following the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3.

Speaking at a rally in Florida on Friday, Trump indicated that further military action remained possible if Iran failed to reach an agreement with Washington.

The remarks have added to concerns that the confrontation could escalate despite continuing diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider regional conflict.

Iranian officials, meanwhile, have signalled that Tehran would resist additional military pressure and could broaden its response beyond military installations if attacked again.

Strait of Hormuz Raises Oil Supply Concerns

The Strait of Hormuz remains a central concern in the escalating confrontation because of its importance to international energy supplies and commercial shipping.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy has threatened to target US military bases in the region if Washington continues supporting commercial vessels passing through the strategic waterway.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has also warned that further escalation could endanger civilians, undermine regional stability and damage the global economy.

Any disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could have far-reaching consequences for oil-importing countries, energy companies and international trade. The waterway is one of the world's most important routes for seaborne crude oil and petroleum products.

Energy markets have already shown signs of nervousness. Brent crude prices climbed above USD 117 a barrel on Friday amid concerns over renewed fighting and potential disruptions to oil supplies.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue Amid Escalating Tensions

Despite increasingly hostile rhetoric, diplomatic efforts to bring Washington and Tehran back to negotiations are continuing.

However, the possibility of renewed US-Israeli military strikes, combined with Iran's warnings of retaliation against regional military and economic targets, has heightened fears of a broader Middle East conflict.

A further escalation could threaten regional infrastructure, disrupt international shipping and place additional pressure on global energy markets.

With both sides maintaining firm positions, the immediate challenge for regional and international mediators remains preventing the confrontation from developing into a wider military conflict across the Gulf.
