Jaipur, October 2026: Rajasthan Police has added a new chapter to its sporting initiatives by forming the country’s first police polo team, bringing polo into the range of sports activities promoted by the state police force.
The inaugural ceremony of the Rajasthan Police Polo Team was held at the hockey ground of the Rajasthan Police Academy on Thursday evening. The occasion featured an exhibition match between Team Red and Team Blue.
Rajasthan Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma formally inaugurated the police polo team and the opening match by rolling the ball. The exciting contest, marked by the speed of the horses, players’ skills and strong team coordination, drew enthusiastic applause from the spectators.
Jitendra Singh, Mayur Singh, Vijay and Devendra represented Team Red, while Team Blue comprised Ajay Singh, Shubham Gupta, Rajesh Kumar and Dungar Singh. The players displayed impressive horsemanship, coordination and skill throughout the match.
Team Blue produced a strong performance to defeat Team Red 6-2 in the exhibition match.
DGP Rajeev Kumar Sharma said Rajasthan Police had taken a special initiative to form the polo team within a short period and organise its first exhibition match. He said the Rajasthan Police team would participate in various competitions in the future.
Sharma said encouraging sporting talent within the police force would help promote discipline, team spirit and leadership qualities among personnel. He added that all necessary resources and training facilities would be provided to the polo team to further improve the players’ performance.
Additional Director General of Police and Chief Sports Officer Rupinder Singh said the Rajasthan Police Polo Team had been formed in accordance with DGP Sharma’s vision.
He said Rajasthan Police had created history by becoming the first police force in the country to establish a polo team. The team would undertake regular practice sessions, with the objective of participating in major polo competitions in the future.
The event also witnessed the launch of the Rajasthan Police Orchestra Band.
DGP Traffic Malini Agrawal, Rajasthan Polo Club Secretary Digvijay Singh, former polo player Colonel Kuldeep Singh and several senior police officers were present at the event.
The formation of the polo team marks another step by Rajasthan Police towards promoting sports and creating opportunities for personnel with sporting talent, while also strengthening discipline, teamwork and leadership through competitive activities.
