‘Vote-Chori’ In Uttar Pradesh Before Elections Is Continuing With ‘Seenazori’: Sanjay Singh

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Uttar Pradesh Prabhari and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Friday questioned irregularities in the state’s electoral rolls, calling out the BJP and the Election Commission for facilitating vote-chori. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow, he said that the same pattern seen in Delhi and Bengal was now unfolding in Uttar Pradesh. Citing Election Commission figures, Sanjay Singh said the state had 15.44 crore voters before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), during which around 2.90 crore names were reportedly deleted. Subsequently, 84 lakh applications were received to add names and 4.30 lakh applications to delete them.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that under Election Commission rules, details of names added through Form 6 must be made public so political parties can verify the entries at the booth and Assembly constituency levels. He questioned why publicly available information listed 71.13 lakh names as having been added despite 84 lakh applications being received. “Who are the remaining 13 lakh people, and where have their names been added?” he asked.

Sanjay Singh stated that Narendra Modi had got 13 lakh fake votes added in Uttar Pradesh through Gyanesh Kumar. “Adding 10,000 names each in 130 Assembly constituencies, or 5,000 names each in 260 constituencies, could change election results. The Election Commission must clarify at whose behest these names were added and at which polling booths. Was this list provided by Narendra Modi, Yogi Adityanath or Pankaj Chaudhary? Why is the Commission not making this information public?” he asked.

Sanjay Singh said that applications to add names under Form 6 are verified by the Booth Level Officer (BLO), while the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) decides whether to add the names. “Similarly, deleting names through Form 7 requires adherence to a prescribed procedure and valid reasons,” he noted.

He added, “Out of the 4.30 lakh applications submitted to delete voters’ names, 85,000 names were removed without any reason being given. These forms are reportedly auto-generated. How can names be deleted on the basis of forms that do not state any reason? This process could be used to remove the names of opposition voters before the elections. The affected people will be left running from pillar to post, filing appeals and approaching tribunals, by which time the elections will already be over.”

Citing the example of the Tarabganj Assembly constituency in Gonda district, Sanjay Singh said, “Applications had been submitted to delete the names of 188 voters in the name of a woman called Reshma. However, attempts to gather information about her failed to establish her whereabouts.*

He questioned how such a large number of applications could have been submitted in one person’s name and why her identity and the authenticity of the applications had not been verified.

Citing several cases, Sanjay Singh said, “Large numbers of applications to delete voters’ names had been submitted in the names of different individuals, with Muslim voters reportedly accounting for a substantial proportion of those targeted.”

The figures cited by him were as follows:

* Baburam: 237 names, including 212 Muslim voters.

* Reshma: 188 names, including 174 Muslim voters.

* Nisha: 124 names, including 109 Muslim voters.

* Dheeraj Kumar Bharti: 112 names, including 97 Muslim voters.

* Kumar Kamlesh: 75 names, including 65 Muslim voters.

* Brij Mohan: 66 names, including 63 Muslim voters.

* Devdatt: 62 names, including 59 Muslim voters.

* Adarsh Kumar Pandey: 61 names, including 56 Muslim voters.

* Jasbandh: 59 names, including 55 Muslim voters.

* Narendra Kumar Tiwari in Pilibhit: 56 names, including 50 Muslim voters.

He said these figures must be investigated impartially. If applications have been submitted to delete large numbers of voters belonging to a particular community, the reasons must be clarified.

Referring to the deletion of approximately 2.90 crore names during the SIR, Sanjay Singh questioned statements made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary. He referred to calls for BJP workers to get 200 names added at every polling booth and demanded that the Election Commission publicly disclose booth-wise figures for newly added voters, along with the relevant documents. “The Commission must ensure free and fair elections without being influenced by political pressure,” he asserted.

The AAP Rajya Sabha MP said that, “During the Delhi Assembly elections, we raised complaints that applications had been submitted to delete the names of 2,000 voters under a single individual’s name. However, our complaints were not heard effectively, and we lost the elections.”

Sanjay Singh warned that if opposition parties and the people of Uttar Pradesh did not wake up in time, large numbers of people could be deprived of their right to vote. “The same developments seen in Bengal and Delhi are being repeated in Uttar Pradesh. If opposition political parties and the people of Uttar Pradesh do not wake up in time, people will be deprived of their right to vote,” he noted.

He continued, “Elections are won or lost by margins of just a few thousand votes. All opposition parties must therefore unite to raise this issue. This is not just a matter concerning the Aam Aadmi Party; it is a question of protecting every citizen’s right to vote.”

Sanjay Singh expressed concern over the dire conditions in Faizullaganj, Lucknow, following the floods and appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to provide immediate relief to affected residents. He demanded that ambulance services, healthcare facilities, ration supplies, sanitation and transport arrangements be improved.

The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded an impartial investigation into all allegations concerning the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh, the public disclosure of complete information about the addition and deletion of names, and immediate relief for families affected by the flooding in Faizullaganj. The party said protecting every citizen’s right to vote and helping people facing crises are primary responsibilities of the government.
