Adani Group Denies Link to Alleged Tree Felling Near Bhimashankar Temple, Highlights Afforestation Efforts

Ahmedabad, Oct 2026 : The Adani Group has denied social media allegations linking it to the alleged felling of trees and displacement of people near the Bhimashankar Temple in Maharashtra’s Pune district, stating that it has no ongoing or proposed project in the area.

In a statement posted on X, a company spokesperson described videos circulating online that associate the Group with the alleged activities as “false, misleading and fabricated”.

“The group has no project, proposed or ongoing, in the area or its vicinity, and is in no way associated with the activities depicted in the circulating videos,” the spokesperson said.

The Group urged people to verify information before sharing it online and refrain from circulating unverified claims. The statement was issued in response to social media posts linking the conglomerate to the alleged tree felling near the temple.

Adani Enterprises Reports Plantation at Chhattisgarh Mine

Separately, Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) has reported planting more than 1.6 million trees and saplings across 568 hectares at the Parsa East and Kanta Basan (PEKB) coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district.

According to the company, the ecological restoration initiative has transformed areas previously used for mining into green landscapes. Under its reported restoration approach, 40 trees are planted for every tree removed for mining activities.

The plantation drive includes native species such as Sal, Mahua, Tendu, Amaltas and Sidha. The company has reported a survival rate of approximately 88 per cent for the planted trees and saplings.

AEL operates the PEKB mine as the developer and operator for Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUNL).

Company officials said the restoration initiative demonstrates efforts to regenerate vegetation on mined land following coal extraction. The stated target is to increase the green cover to more than four million trees by the end of the decade.

Nursery and Compensatory Afforestation Initiatives

The Adani Group has also developed a 3.5-hectare nursery at the site, which houses approximately 500,000 saplings. The company has reported successful regeneration of Sal forests in the area as part of its ecological restoration activities.

In addition to plantation work at the mine, the Group has undertaken compensatory afforestation across more than 4,000 hectares in the Surguja, Korea, Balrampur and Surajpur forest divisions of Chhattisgarh, according to officials.

More than Rs 259 crore has also been deposited with the Chhattisgarh government towards afforestation, wildlife management and other environmental measures, the officials said.

These initiatives form part of the environmental measures associated with the Group’s mining operations in the state.

Environmental Concerns and Corporate Response

The controversy surrounding the Bhimashankar Temple emerged after videos circulated on social media allegedly linking the Adani Group to tree felling and displacement near the religious site. The company has categorically denied any association with the activities depicted in the videos.

The Group’s statement distinguishes the allegations concerning Maharashtra from its reported afforestation and ecological restoration initiatives in Chhattisgarh.

The claims regarding plantation numbers, tree survival rates and environmental expenditure were provided by company officials. Independent verification of these figures was not included in the statement.
