Jaipur, October 2026: The Rajasthan government has assured farmers that adequate quantities of fertilisers are available in the state for the ongoing Rabi season and urged them not to panic or purchase fertilisers unnecessarily.
Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Dr Kirori Lal said the government is closely monitoring fertiliser availability and coordinating continuously with the Centre to ensure supplies reach farmers according to their requirements.
At present, Rajasthan has stocks of 3.72 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 1.06 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 97,000 metric tonnes of NPK and 2.08 lakh metric tonnes of SSP.
Districts and blocks with comparatively lower availability and higher consumption are being identified, and fertilisers are being supplied on a priority basis according to demand.
Recently, a state-level Fertiliser Distribution Regulatory Task Force meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary V. Srinivas to review arrangements for the Rabi 2026-27 season and strengthen measures against hoarding and black marketing.
Dr Kirori Lal said farmers should not be influenced by rumours or purchase and store fertilisers beyond their actual requirements. He said the state government is working in coordination with the Central government to ensure adequate supplies according to the state’s needs.
Fertiliser Planning Based on Crop Diversification
The minister said the government has proposed increasing the area under oilseed and pulse crops while reducing the area under foodgrain crops in line with the Centre’s focus on promoting oilseeds and pulses.
During Rabi 2025-26, oilseeds were sown over 39.82 lakh hectares, pulses over 20.69 lakh hectares and cereals over 42.77 lakh hectares.
For Rabi 2026-27, the proposed sowing area is 40.06 lakh hectares for oilseeds, 21.95 lakh hectares for pulses and 38.50 lakh hectares for cereals.
The state has prepared its fertiliser supply and distribution plan after taking into account the proposed crop-wise acreage and corresponding fertiliser requirements.
Centre-State Coordination for Additional Supplies
For October under Rabi 2026-27, the Central government has allocated 4.60 lakh metric tonnes of urea to Rajasthan. Including the stock available on October 1, around 4.33 lakh metric tonnes has so far been made available.
Similarly, against the Centre’s October allocation of 2.004 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, the state has arranged around 1.41 lakh metric tonnes, including the stock available on October 1. Supplies are being arranged in line with the allocated quantities.
24 FIRs, 118 Fertiliser Licences Suspended or Cancelled
The Agriculture Department has launched special enforcement drives against hoarding, black marketing, diversion of urea and other irregularities in fertiliser distribution.
So far, 12,362 fertiliser sale premises have been inspected, resulting in 24 FIRs. The licences of 115 fertiliser dealers have been suspended and three licences cancelled.
The department has seized 1,223 bags of various fertilisers in cases involving diversion. Under quality-control enforcement, a total of 8,533 bags of urea, DAP, NPK, SSP, TDM and PROM have been seized.
Police have arrested 11 people in connection with FIRs registered at various police stations.
A special quality-control campaign is currently underway from September 10 to October 15. The drive includes inspections, seizures, sample collection and action to prevent fertiliser diversion.
Transparent Distribution System
Principal Secretary, Agriculture and Horticulture, Manju Rajpal said the Central government allocates urea, DAP and other fertilisers to states on a monthly and company-wise basis.
Based on the allocations received and district-level demand, the state government prepares district-wise supply plans to ensure transparent and equitable distribution.
She said the availability of phosphatic fertilisers in the state is better than last year. Farmers are also being encouraged to use fertilisers in a balanced manner according to recommendations mentioned in their Soil Health Cards.
Agriculture Commissioner Naresh Kumar Goyal said designated departmental officials and personnel have been deployed at fertiliser sale points to monitor distribution. At outlets witnessing higher footfall, farmers are being organised into queues and fertilisers are being distributed under the supervision of departmental officials.
To prevent unauthorised movement of fertilisers from border districts to other states, 61 check posts have been established with departmental personnel and, where required, police assistance.
Control rooms have also been established in all districts to continuously monitor black marketing, hoarding and diversion, as well as the availability, distribution and supply of fertilisers.
Farmers Urged to Buy Only as Needed
Dr Kirori Lal appealed to farmers not to panic because of rumours and to purchase fertilisers only according to their actual requirements.
He said the government is making every possible effort to ensure timely and adequate availability of fertilisers, with continuous coordination and monitoring between the state and Central governments.
