Patna, October 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reviewed the progress of various National Highways and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects in the state on Thursday. The meeting focused on strengthening road infrastructure, expediting construction and ensuring quality in ongoing projects.
The review meeting was held at the ‘Sankalp’ auditorium at Lok Seva Awas in Patna. Detailed discussions were held on several major projects, including the Patna-Purnia Greenfield Expressway, Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, Muzaffarpur-Barauni four-laning, Dumariya Ghat Bridge, Darbhanga-Supaul Highway, Khagaria-Purnia, Muzaffarpur-Sonebarsa, NH-22 and NH-31, and the six-lane elevated road with a service road in the Anisabad-Didarganj section.
Other projects reviewed included the Danapur-Bihta corridor, Bihta-Koilwar upgrade, six-lane Greenfield Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Highway, Amas-Darbhanga corridor, Munger-Mirzachowki corridor, Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama-Sahebganj corridor, Siwan-Mashrakh, Patna-Ara-Sasaram four-lane corridor, the six-lane Ganga Bridge and the Patna Ring Road.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to complete these projects within the stipulated timelines and directed officials to resolve implementation-related issues at the earliest. Instructions were also issued to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for converting NH-139 into a four-lane highway along with the Aurangabad and Ambabai bypasses, as well as for four-laning the Bariarpur-Gangta-Jamui section of NH-333.
During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on maintaining the highest standards of quality in road construction. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari made it clear that there would be no compromise on construction quality. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is being used for effective monitoring of projects, and strict action will be taken against contractors who fail to execute works according to prescribed standards.
The Union Minister also appreciated the Bihar government's policy on the use of river silt in road construction. Thanking Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary for the initiative, Gadkari said the policy could serve as a model for the entire country. He said it would encourage the use of locally available natural resources in road construction and help make construction works more efficient.
Gadkari also directed officials to ensure that all projects were completed within the prescribed deadlines.
Chief Minister Choudhary said completion of the projects would significantly improve road connectivity, transportation and economic activity in the concerned regions. He said the Bihar government was committed to developing a modern, safe and high-quality road network across the state.
Effective implementation of national highway projects, he added, would improve connectivity and give fresh momentum to trade, tourism, industry and overall economic development in Bihar.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for expediting central government road projects in Bihar and supporting the state's infrastructure development.
Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Road Construction Minister Kumar Shailendra, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh and senior officials from the state government and Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways were present at the meeting.
