Senior Election Commission officials will assess election readiness, security arrangements and voter-registration efforts ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
Panaji, Sept 2026 : A high-level delegation of the Election Commission of India (ECI) will visit Goa on October 7 and 8 to review preparations for the state's upcoming Assembly elections, expected to be held in early 2027. The visit will be the second by a senior ECI delegation to the state in a little over a month.
The delegation will be led by Senior Deputy Election Commissioners Maneesh Garg and Pawan Kumar Sharma. The visit follows Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's two-day visit to Goa on September 2 and 3, during which preparations for the forthcoming polls were reviewed.
On October 7, the ECI team is scheduled to hold a special meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer, State Police Nodal Officer, District Election Officers, Superintendents of Police and representatives of various enforcement agencies. The delegation will also include Ashish Goyal, Shubra Saxena, Bidharani Konthoujam, Principal Secretary Ajay Kumar, Secretary Binod Kumar and Under Secretary M L Meena.
The discussions are expected to cover the overall preparedness of the election machinery, coordination among departments and security-related arrangements. District-level officials will also brief the visiting team on the measures being taken to ensure that election-related processes are completed in accordance with ECI requirements.
On October 8, election officers and Superintendents of Police from Goa's districts will make separate presentations before the delegation on preparations in their respective jurisdictions. The sessions will conclude under the guidance of Garg and Sharma.
The review comes as Goa's election machinery continues preparations well ahead of the next Assembly polls. The current 40-member Goa Legislative Assembly's term is due to end in March 2027, with the official election schedule yet to be announced by the ECI.
Alongside administrative preparations, the Chief Electoral Officer's office has been focusing on increasing voter participation among young and first-time electors. Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been encouraged to reach out to colleges, universities and other educational institutions.
An institutional-level voter-registration campaign is being conducted to help eligible students enrol on the electoral roll. Electoral Literacy Clubs are also being used to conduct awareness programmes and assist students with voter-registration applications.

The ECI's preparations also come against the backdrop of continuing attention on electoral rolls in Goa. Recent reports have raised questions over the deletion of some voters from the electoral database, while the CEO's office has sought corrective action in individual cases. These developments add importance to the Commission's review of electoral-roll management and election preparedness.
With the Assembly election expected in early 2027, the October 7-8 visit is expected to provide the ECI with an assessment of Goa's administrative, security and voter-registration preparedness before the formal election schedule is announced.
