Jaipur, Nov 2026 : The Gayatri Mantra holds a special place in Hindu spiritual traditions and is regarded as a prayer for wisdom, clarity and divine guidance. Its meaning is: “We meditate upon the divine, radiant and supreme light of the Supreme Being, who is the source of life, removes suffering and destroys negativity. May that divine presence inspire our intellect and guide us towards the right path.”
In Vedic astrology, the Gayatri Mantra is associated with the Sun, which is considered a symbol of confidence, authority, vitality and the relationship with one's father.
According to astrological beliefs, chanting the mantra is considered beneficial when the Sun is placed in a debilitated sign, is associated with malefic planets or is influenced by their aspects. Its position during the planetary periods and sub-periods, known as Dasha and Antardasha, is also considered while assessing its effects in a horoscope.
Astrologer Jitendra Saxena of Vidya Bhavan Astro Research Centre says that devotees may regularly chant the Gayatri Mantra while offering water to the rising Sun, irrespective of whether their horoscope indicates any astrological affliction.
The practice is traditionally associated with expressing respect and devotion towards one's father. It is also believed to help strengthen self-confidence and support personal success.
