With Just 1.34 Per Cent of India’s Geographical Area, Haryana Contributes Nearly 3.6 Per Cent to National GDP; Leads Major States in Per Capita Income

Chandigarh, November 2026  – Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini said the state’s achievements over six decades had laid a strong foundation for its next goal: becoming India’s first developed state. Haryana would pursue this resolve while playing a leading role in realising Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat-2047, he said.

Addressing the Haryana Day diamond jubilee celebrations at Kurukshetra University on Sunday, the Chief Minister welcomed the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Her presence on the sacred land of the Bhagavad Gita made the historic celebrations a moment of special pride for the people of Haryana, he said.

Haryana Governor, Professor, Ashim Kumar Ghosh also graced the ocassion.

The Chief Minister described the President’s journey from Uparbeda village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district to the country’s highest constitutional office as a powerful affirmation of the strength of Indian democracy and the dignity of the Constitution. Her journey inspired hope and confidence among the country’s daughters, poor families and tribal communities, encouraging them to pursue their aspirations.

**Kurukshetra’s Message of Duty, Courage and Public Welfare Remains Timeless**

The Chief Minister said Kurukshetra held a unique place in India’s spiritual and cultural consciousness. It was on this sacred soil that Lord Krishna delivered the message of duty, courage and public welfare to Arjuna through the Bhagavad Gita.

Recalling the President’s participation in the International Gita Mahotsav in 2022, he said she had described the Gita as a spiritual light for humanity and a source of guidance in life. Her presence in Kurukshetra once again added to the significance of the occasion.

**Haryana’s Progress Built on the Strength of Its People**

The Chief Minister said Haryana’s transformation since its formation on November 1, 1966, reflected the determination and enterprise of its people. Once regarded as a backward region, it had emerged as one of India’s leading and fastest-growing states through the sustained efforts of farmers, workers, industrialists, traders, sportspersons and women.

He said hardworking farmers, courageous soldiers, accomplished sportspersons and empowered women defined Haryana’s identity. The state’s daughters were demonstrating their talent across sectors—from farms and sports arenas to the armed forces and startups—and bringing pride to Haryana.

The Chief Minister acknowledged farmers’ contribution to the nation’s foodgrain reserves and livestock farmers’ achievements in milk production. Their efforts, he said, embodied the spirit of the popular saying, “Desan mein des Haryana, jit doodh-dahi ka khana,” celebrating Haryana’s rich tradition of milk and curd.

He also paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Haryana’s soldiers in safeguarding the nation’s borders.

Highlighting the state’s sporting achievements, he said Haryana’s athletes had brought glory to India by winning 11 medals at the Commonwealth Games and 32 at the Asian Games. Each time the Tricolour rose on the international stage, it reflected the dedication and talent nurtured in Haryana, he added.

**A Strong Contribution to India’s Economy**

The Chief Minister said Haryana’s economic contribution far exceeded its geographical size. With just 1.34 per cent of the country’s geographical area, the state contributed nearly 3.6 per cent to India’s GDP and recorded the highest per capita income among major states.

Haryana manufactured two out of every three passenger cars, every second tractor and six out of every 10 motorcycles produced in India, he said. It also accounted for more than 60 per cent of the country’s basmati rice exports.

These achievements underlined Haryana’s role in strengthening the national economy through both industrial production and agricultural exports, he added.

**Pioneering Initiatives in Agriculture, Governance and Infrastructure**

The Chief Minister said Haryana had set new benchmarks through innovation and public welfare initiatives. It was the country’s first state to procure all crops at minimum support prices and had pioneered measures to free villages from Lal Dora restrictions and introduce educational qualifications for panchayat representatives.

He said India’s first hydrogen train had operated between Jind and Sonipat. Haryana had also advanced modern transport infrastructure with the construction of the country’s first elevated railway tracks in Rohtak and Kurukshetra.

**Development Anchored in Harmony, Values and Shared Heritage**

Acknowledging the vision of those who helped shape modern Haryana and the hard work of its people, the Chief Minister said the achievements of the past 60 years must now be carried forward with renewed resolve.

Haryana would work towards becoming India’s first developed state and make a leading contribution to the national goal of Viksit Bharat-2047, he said.

The Chief Minister emphasised that progress must preserve the qualities that defined Haryana. Economic advancement would go hand in hand with compassion, development with brotherhood, and modernisation with respect for the state’s values and traditions.

This balance, he said, represented Haryana’s true identity and its most enduring legacy for future generations.

**Hard Work and Resolve Have Given Haryana a Distinct National Identity Despite Limited Resources: Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi**

Haryana Chief Secretary Sh. Anurag Rastogi said the state’s diamond jubilee was an occasion to celebrate six decades of development, perseverance and collective achievement. Since its formation on November 1, 1966, Haryana had overcome limited resources and inadequate infrastructure to make remarkable progress in agriculture, industry, education, sports and entrepreneurship, he said.

Welcoming President Smt. Droupadi Murmu on behalf of the Haryana Government and the people of the state, the Chief Secretary said her presence at the celebrations was a source of inspiration for everyone.

He said Haryana had carved out a distinct identity through hard work and determination. The state was making a significant contribution to the nation’s foodgrain reserves while setting new benchmarks in development.

These achievements reflected the collective efforts of Haryana’s farmers, soldiers, workers, teachers, scientists, sportspersons, entrepreneurs and every citizen of the state, he added.

Agriculture Minister Sh. Shyam Singh Rana, MP Sh. Naveen Jindal, Director of the Information, Public Relations and Languages Department Dr. Aditya Dahiya, Deputy Commissioner Sh. Vishram Kumar Meena and other officers were present on the occasion.
