Dharapuram, Oct 2026 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay will undertake a roadshow spanning approximately 40 kilometres between Dharapuram and Mulanur on Sunday to seek votes for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate Sathyabama, as campaigning for the October 6 Assembly bypoll enters its final hours.
The roadshow will mark Vijay’s second campaign visit to the constituency in support of the party candidate. With the campaign deadline set for 6 pm, political parties are making their final efforts to mobilise voters in the reserved constituency in Tiruppur district.
The bypoll is witnessing a five-cornered contest involving candidates from the TVK, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Naam Tamilar Katchi and the Communist Party. A total of 22 candidates, including party nominees and Independents, are in the fray.
Candidates have been campaigning extensively across the constituency, with senior leaders and alliance partners joining the efforts to garner support. As the deadline approaches, parties are intensifying their outreach and making last-minute appeals to voters.
Vijay is scheduled to fly from Chennai to Coimbatore on Sunday before travelling by helicopter to Dharapuram. He is expected to arrive at around 11 am at a helipad prepared in Maruthi Nagar.
From there, the Chief Minister will travel in a campaign van to the Udumalai roundabout junction, approximately two kilometres away, where the roadshow will begin. The route will cover several prominent locations in Dharapuram, including the Periyar statue junction, Five Roads junction and Meenakshipuram.
The procession will subsequently move through Kulathupalayam, Karaiyur and Mulanur, including the Vanjiamman temple area. After completing the roadshow, Vijay is scheduled to return to Maruthi Nagar along the same route before taking a helicopter to Coimbatore and boarding a flight back to Chennai.
Security arrangements have been strengthened along the entire route ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit. Barricades have been installed on both sides of the roads to facilitate public viewing and help manage the expected crowds during the campaign procession.
Coimbatore West Zone Inspector General of Police Ramya Bharathi inspected the helipad at Maruthi Nagar as part of the preparations. Tiruppur Superintendent of Police Shruti Singh accompanied her, along with officials from the Revenue and Public Works departments and other police personnel.
The inspection focused on arrangements for Vijay’s arrival and departure, while police officials reviewed security measures along the planned roadshow route.
Polling for the Dharapuram Assembly bypoll is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, with Sunday marking the final day of campaigning.
