Iran Adopts New Economic Measures Amid Intensifying Pressure, Pezeshkian Says

Iranian president claims economic pressure has failed to achieve its objectives as Donald Trump predicts a swift end to the conflict and a sharp fall in oil prices

New Delhi, Oct 2026 : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said his government has adopted a new arrangement to manage the “special conditions” confronting the country, asserting that mounting economic pressure has failed to achieve its intended objectives.

In a post on social media platform X, Pezeshkian said Iran had been facing intensified economic pressure but maintained that the government, with the support of the Iranian people, had prevented its adversaries from achieving their goals in what he described as an “economic war”.

“The government has adopted a new arrangement to manage these special conditions,” Pezeshkian said, alleging that the objective of the pressure campaign in recent months had been to disrupt the country’s vital economic and supply networks.

He said economic pressure had intensified, but the government had taken measures to protect the country’s interests and prevent its adversaries from realising their objectives.

“The enemy's plan in recent months has been to cut off the country's vital arteries with the aim of pressuring the noble people of Iran,” he said, adding that government measures and public support had helped the country respond to the challenges.

Pezeshkian’s remarks came amid continuing tensions surrounding the conflict and growing concerns over Iran’s economic situation. His statement did not provide specific details about the newly adopted arrangement or the measures being implemented.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump predicted that the conflict with Iran would end “very quickly” and said oil prices would fall sharply once hostilities came to an end. He also portrayed Iran as facing severe military and economic pressure.

Speaking to reporters after arriving in Texas and later during a visit to a Peterbilt Motors facility in Denton, Trump said Tehran faced a choice over how the conflict would conclude.

“Iran will very soon be ending one way or the other,” Trump said, citing what he described as the country’s high inflation, financial difficulties and military setbacks.

He claimed Iran’s military capabilities had been substantially weakened, asserting that its navy and air force had been defeated.

Trump also linked the anticipated end of the conflict to a significant decline in global oil prices.

“And, one way or the other, it's going to end very quickly. And when that ends, oil prices are going to drop like a rock,” he said.

The contrasting statements highlighted the sharply different assessments offered by Tehran and Washington. While Pezeshkian maintained that Iran was resisting economic pressure through government action and public support, Trump argued that military and financial constraints would bring the conflict to a swift conclusion.

The developments come as uncertainty over the conflict continues to influence expectations surrounding energy markets, with oil prices remaining a key concern for governments, businesses and consumers worldwide.
