Chandigarh, September 2026 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday staged a protest outside the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) office in Mohali against Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids, with party leaders and workers surrounding ED teams and raising slogans against the BJP-led Central government.
The protest was led by AAP Working President and MLA Aman Sher Singh Shery Kalsi, with a large number of party workers participating.
Kalsi alleged that while Punjab was entering an election period, the BJP had intensified the use of the ED to put pressure on the AAP and its leaders.
“Elections are underway in Punjab, but the BJP has increased the ED activity even more because it wants to suppress us and put pressure on us,” Kalsi said.
He alleged that the Central government was attempting to divert the AAP’s attention from its election campaign by increasing investigations and raids.
Kalsi also referred to the Delhi elections, alleging that similar tactics had been used there to influence the electoral process and claiming that the BJP was now attempting to adopt the same approach in Punjab.
He alleged that the BJP wanted to prevent the Aam Aadmi Party from returning to power in Punjab.
Kalsi claimed that despite prolonged searches and investigations, the ED had so far failed to find anything against the party. He alleged that Central agencies were being used to exert pressure on Punjab ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
According to the AAP leader, the ED’s activities had increased as the elections drew closer.
During the protest, AAP leaders alleged that the timing and manner of the ED action amounted to an attempt to intimidate and pressure government officials and others ahead of the elections.
The party leaders also alleged that the repeated ED raids were politically motivated and described them as an indication of pressure on the BJP leadership ahead of the Punjab elections.
Kalsi warned that the people of Punjab and AAP workers would not accept what he described as “high-handedness” by the BJP.
The protest comes amid the AAP’s allegations that central investigative agencies are being used against opposition parties during election periods. The BJP and the ED have not, in the statement, responded to the allegations made by Kalsi.
The AAP leaders reiterated that they would continue to oppose the ED actions and said party workers would remain united against what they described as attempts to weaken the organisation ahead of the elections.
