Mumbai, October 2026 : Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray has opposed the alleged large-scale felling of trees for Torrent Power Company’s proposed hydroelectric project in Karjat taluka of Maharashtra’s Raigad district. He is scheduled to visit the project site on Monday to assess the situation.
Youth leader Vivekanand Patil, who gained prominence during the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) agitation in Pune and became known for his distinctive Kolhapuri-style speeches, has also criticised the alleged tree cutting along the Karjat-Bhimashankar stretch.
The proposed hydroelectric project and the reported large-scale removal of trees have drawn objections from political leaders and environmental activists concerned about the potential ecological impact in the region.
Thackeray’s planned visit is expected to bring further attention to the issue, amid concerns over tree preservation and the environmental consequences of infrastructure development in Maharashtra.
Bombay High Court to Hear Imran Khan’s Petition
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court is scheduled to hear on Monday actor Imran Khan’s petition challenging a police notice directing him to leave India following a political agitation.
According to the details provided, the notice requires the actor to leave the country by October 28. His lawyer has challenged the police action, arguing that Khan has no criminal record.
The High Court has also directed that the Maharashtra government be made a party to the petition.
The hearing is expected to examine the actor’s challenge to the notice and the circumstances surrounding the police directive.
Both developments are expected to draw attention in Maharashtra on Monday, with the Karjat tree-felling controversy highlighting environmental concerns and the court hearing focusing on the legality of the notice issued to the actor.
