New Delhi, Oct 2026 : The Congress on Friday announced a major organisational reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh, appointing senior leader Aradhana Misra Mona as the new president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) and Imran Masood as the working president of the state unit.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approved the appointments with immediate effect, according to the party’s announcement. Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad have also been appointed senior vice presidents of the UPCC as part of the restructuring.
The party expressed its appreciation for the contributions of outgoing state unit president Ajay Rai, who had been leading the organisation in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress leadership acknowledged his efforts during his tenure, which saw the party navigate various political and organisational challenges in the state.
In a separate decision, Kharge approved the appointment of Chaudhary Virendra Singh as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. The appointment also takes effect immediately, and Singh will now be responsible for leading the party’s legislators and coordinating its legislative activities.
The changes come as the Congress seeks to strengthen its organisational structure and improve coordination among party leaders and workers in Uttar Pradesh, a politically significant state. The reshuffle places a new leadership team at the helm as the party works to consolidate its presence and expand its support base.
Aradhana Misra Mona, a senior Congress leader, takes charge of the state organisation at a time when the party is focusing on rebuilding its network and improving coordination across different regions. Imran Masood’s appointment as working president is expected to support the state president in organisational responsibilities and party activities.
The elevation of Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad as senior vice presidents is also part of the effort to strengthen the leadership structure and improve coordination within the state unit.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary Virendra Singh’s appointment as the legislature party leader is expected to shape the Congress’s strategy and interventions in the Assembly. The role involves coordinating legislators, articulating the party’s positions on state issues and raising matters of public concern during legislative proceedings.
The Congress high command has called upon party leaders and workers in Uttar Pradesh to extend full cooperation to the newly appointed office-bearers and work collectively under the revised leadership structure. Formal charge-taking ceremonies are expected to be held in the coming days.
