Lucknow, September 2026 : Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly criticised Congress and all opposition parties. While interacting with journalists at his official residence on Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that these parties have been part of every conspiracy aimed at harming India’s constitutional institutions and weakening democratic values for political self-interest.
CM Yogi stated, “The actions and rhetoric of the country's main opposition party and other parties associated with the UPA alliance are irresponsible and detrimental to democratic values. They have spread misconceptions regarding the SIR. This is not the first time an SIR has been conducted; SIRs have been carried out in the country on numerous occasions previously, including in 1952, 1957, 1961, 1965-66, and 2003.”
He said, “The uproar created by Congress, SP, RJD and other parties regarding the current SIR exercise is extremely unfortunate. Congress, which governed the country for the longest period, is continuously putting the Election Commission in the dock.”
Taking a swipe at the opposition, the Chief Minister remarked, “If parties such as SP, Congress, and RJD win elections, it is considered their achievement, but if the public rejects them because of corruption, financial misconduct, flawed policies, and anarchic activities, then they blame the Election Commission and EVMs. These parties should introspect and reflect upon their childish statements.”
CM Yogi stated, “These people continuously place every constitutional institution in the dock. They are constantly attacking the Election Commission. Former Congress President and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi questioned the impartiality of India's judiciary while in Cambridge. When the CAG gave its observations on the Rafale issue in 2019, the Congress raised questions about that as well.”
He further pointed out, “Congress formed governments at the Centre and in several states through elections conducted using EVMs. It is unfortunate to now call those same EVMs a 'black box' and raise questions about India's electoral system and the world's largest democracy.”
Accusing Congress, the Chief Minister asserted, “It (Congress) has no faith in constitutional and democratic values. When Congress committed the ‘sin’ of strangling the Constitution of the country on June 25, 1975, the governments led by its leadership also committed the ‘sin’ of unethically toppling several duly elected governments of opposition parties. Through corrupt practices and financial misconduct, the party consistently compromised the nation's internal and external security.”
He added, “Questioning the courage and valour of India’s brave soldiers during the Balakot air strike and Operation Sindoor is not patriotism. The Congress and its allies are currently engaging in similar irresponsible behaviour.”
The Chief Minister further said that clear directions had already been issued regarding SIR that voters who had been left out were fully free to submit Form-6. He noted, “The Supreme Court upheld the Election Commission's actions concerning Form-6; yet, it is deeply shocking to see the Congress and its allies attempting to tarnish India's reputation and weaken the world's largest democracy by placing the Election Commission, the Chief Election Commissioner, and various constitutional bodies in the dock. The Congress must rein in its irresponsible behavior. There is no place for violence, vandalism, or malicious propaganda in a democracy.”
The CM highlighted, “All three Election Commissioners have clarified the Election Commission's functioning, as well as the situation regarding omitted voters and Form-6, before the media. There is no room for further questions now; however, the tendency of the Congress, SP, and allied parties to nitpick is unfortunate. A conspiracy is underway to undermine democratic values and institutions. Since the very beginning, India has granted every adult voter the freedom to vote without discrimination based on caste, region, language, or gender, along with the right to have their name added to the electoral roll up to one day before the election. Casting doubt on a completely transparent process amounts to undermining democratic values. The Congress and its allies should apologize to the general public and the country's constitutional institutions for their actions.”
