IRGC says captured Remus 600 during intelligence and electronic warfare operation and will examine it for data
Tehran, Sept 2026 : Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy on Sunday claimed that it had seized a US unmanned underwater vehicle in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, identifying it as a Remus 600 autonomous underwater vehicle. The Guards said the drone was being examined by Iranian specialists for possible data recovery.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the IRGC said the vehicle was captured during what it described as a “coordinated, complex operation” involving intelligence monitoring and electronic warfare capabilities.
Iranian authorities alleged that the underwater drone was operating in the Strait of Hormuz for espionage purposes. The IRGC did not provide details about when or where the vehicle was captured, nor did it release independently verified evidence supporting its account.
The claim follows an earlier announcement by the Guards this month that another US underwater drone had been seized near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have described the waterway as closed amid the ongoing conflict, while the United States has maintained pressure on Iranian ports.
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial route for global energy shipments, making developments there significant for regional security and international trade.
There was no immediate independent confirmation of the latest Iranian claim. Euronews reported that the US military denied the seizure.
