New Delhi, Oct 2026 : Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), accusing them of disrupting peace and security in the national capital for political gains. She asserted that her government would not allow any political party to hold Delhi residents hostage through protests and alleged attempts to create disorder.
In a strongly worded post on X, Gupta said her government would firmly oppose what she described as the politics of spreading anarchy under the guise of democracy and challenging the people's mandate.
“There will be a resolute fight against the politics of spreading anarchy under the guise of democracy and challenging the people's mandate,” she said, adding that no one would be allowed to disturb peace in the capital.
In her lengthy Hindi post, the Chief Minister alleged that Rahul Gandhi and Kejriwal, along with what she described as their political ally CJP, were attempting to turn Delhi into a battleground after facing repeated electoral setbacks.
Questioning their political strategy, Gupta asked why residents should bear the consequences of political protests and confrontations. She expressed concern over the difficulties faced by office-goers, daily-wage workers and patients trying to reach hospitals amid traffic restrictions and security arrangements.
“What offence have the residents of Delhi committed, who are already tormented by the chaos on the streets?” she asked, questioning whether the political ambitions of opposition leaders were more important than the livelihoods, safety and peace of millions of families.
Gupta maintained that Delhi's electorate had voted for development and expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She referred to Modi's third consecutive term as Prime Minister, describing it as a reflection of the public mandate that opposition parties had failed to accept.
The Chief Minister also accused Kejriwal of attempting to undermine the peace and security of Delhi for political advantage. She criticised what she termed dynastic politics and opportunism, arguing that opposition leaders were unable to reconcile themselves to the electoral support received by the BJP-led leadership.
Gupta also targeted the CJP, led by Abhijeet Dipke, describing the party as the AAP's “B-team”. The CJP had called for a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Meanwhile, authorities implemented extensive security and traffic restrictions across the national capital on Saturday to prevent disruptions linked to the agitation.
According to officials, more than 1,000 protesters were detained at different locations while they were travelling to participate in the demonstration. Over 30,000 police and paramilitary personnel were deployed across Delhi as part of the security arrangements.
Forty-five Metro stations around Jantar Mantar were closed, while internet restrictions were imposed in parts of central Delhi. Barricades and traffic curbs were put in place across several major roads from 6 a.m., causing widespread disruption.
Schools, colleges and courts were also compelled to shift their operations online for the day, according to the report.
The developments triggered a political confrontation, with Gupta accusing opposition leaders of putting public convenience at risk for political objectives. She reiterated that her government would resist any attempt to disturb law and order or undermine the peace of the national capital.
