Inspection finds fungal and rotten food, degraded cooking oil, poor sanitation, pest infestation and inadequate storage conditions
New Delhi, Sept 2026 : The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Wednesday suspended the food business licence of Seven Seas Hospitality Private Limited with immediate effect after an inspection found multiple serious violations related to food safety, hygiene, sanitation and infrastructure at its premises.
According to the food regulator, officials found poor housekeeping and unhygienic conditions across the food preparation areas, including water stagnation, foul odour, accumulated filth and inadequate sanitation arrangements.
“Licence of FBO Seven Seas Hospitality Private Limited has been suspended with immediate effect due to serious food safety violations identified during inspection,” the regulator said.
The inspection also uncovered several deteriorated food products that were considered unfit for consumption. These included tomatoes, papaya, jaggery and cashew nuts showing signs of fungal growth, along with rotten capsicums. Officials also found blackened and degraded cooking oil being used at the facility.
The regulator said the findings raised serious concerns over the food handling and storage practices followed at the premises.
“Poor hygiene and sanitation conditions were observed, including water stagnation, foul odour, filth and inadequate housekeeping in food preparation areas,” FSSAI said.
“Deteriorated food materials were found, including fungal growth on tomatoes, papaya, jaggery and cashew nuts, rotten capsicums and blackened, degraded cooking oil,” it added.
Inspectors also flagged shortcomings in the way food products were stored. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian items were not properly segregated, while meat storage conditions were found to be inappropriate.
The inspection further revealed condensation dripping from cold storage units onto food products, raising concerns about the potential contamination of stored food.
Several infrastructure-related deficiencies were also identified. These included refrigeration leakage, excessive accumulation of ice, flaking plaster, inadequate cold storage capacity, poor ventilation and insufficient lighting in food preparation and storage areas.
The presence of cockroaches and house flies at the premises added to the regulator’s concerns over sanitation and pest control.
As part of the enforcement action, approximately 74 kg/litres of non-compliant food products were destroyed at the site. The facility received a compliance score of only 30 per cent during the inspection, placing it in the “Non-compliance” category.
FSSAI subsequently suspended the company’s food business licence with immediate effect and directed Seven Seas Hospitality Private Limited to stop all food business operations during the suspension period until further orders.
The action comes as food safety authorities continue to conduct inspections and take enforcement measures against food business operators found violating prescribed hygiene, sanitation, storage and food handling requirements.
FSSAI said the suspension was undertaken as a public health measure following the serious deficiencies identified during the inspection.
The findings underscore the importance of maintaining hygienic food preparation areas, ensuring proper segregation and storage of food items, maintaining cold-chain infrastructure and preventing pest infestation at food establishments.
The company will remain prohibited from carrying out food business activities during the suspension period unless further directions are issued by the competent authority following compliance with applicable food safety requirements.
