JD Vance Campaigns for Vivek Ramaswamy in Ohio as Poll Shows Democrat Ahead

Washington, Nov 2026 : US Vice President JD Vance returned to his home state of Ohio on the eve of the midterm elections to campaign for Indian American Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, as a final New York Times/Siena poll showed Democrat Amy Acton leading the gubernatorial race by six percentage points.

The poll, conducted by the Siena Research Institute among likely voters, placed Acton at 49 per cent and Ramaswamy at 43 per cent. In the US Senate special election, Democrat Sherrod Brown was ahead of Republican Senator Jon Husted by 49 per cent to 44 per cent. The margin of error for the Ohio survey was 4.4 percentage points.

"In the much-watched race in Ohio, Acton leads Ramaswamy by six points," said Don Levy, executive director of the institute.

The previous Times/Siena poll, conducted between September 22 and October 1, had shown Acton leading Ramaswamy 49 per cent to 45 per cent. The latest survey indicated a widening gap between the two candidates.

Vance headlined a campaign rally at a hangar at Toledo Express Airport in Swanton on Monday. Ramaswamy and Husted also addressed the gathering as Republicans made their final appeal to voters ahead of Tuesday's election.

In a video posted on X, Vance spoke about his upbringing in Ohio and criticised the Democratic Party, arguing that it had moved away from the political positions it held several decades ago.

"I was raised by a union steel worker right here in Ohio by a man who voted for Democrats his entire life, but the Democrats today look nothing like they did a few decades ago," Vance said.

He accused Democrats of being weak on crime and border security and described their policies as increasingly socialist.

Calling on voters to support the Republican candidates, Vance said they would fight for workers, lower taxes and what he termed common-sense values.

"If you want elected leaders who fight for workers, support lower taxes, and stand up for common sense values then get out and vote for @VivekGRamaswamy and @JonHusted at the ballot box tomorrow," he wrote.

The Republican Party's account on X also shared a video of Ramaswamy addressing supporters. The gubernatorial candidate promised to focus on reducing living costs, improving public safety and raising incomes.

"I will never quit on this state, I will always fight for you in this state, we're gonna fight for you to have a better life, fight for you to have lower costs, fight for you to have bigger paychecks, fight for you to have safer streets," Ramaswamy told the crowd.

Ramaswamy later made a final campaign appeal in Cleveland, promising to reduce property taxes and electricity bills and tackle crime.

"We're going to slash your property taxes, slash your electric bills, and crush crime regardless of your party or who you vote for," he posted on X.

He also criticised Acton over a weekend confrontation between crowds and police in Cincinnati. Ramaswamy alleged that Acton had compared law enforcement officers to the Ku Klux Klan and warned that her election could have wider implications for policing in Ohio.

Ohio has not elected a Democratic governor since 2006, making the contest a closely watched race in the state's political landscape.
