350 Persons with Disabilities Registered in Balod Development Block
Balod, September 2026: A camp is being organised under the Child Disability Certification Campaign 2026, as part of the “Certificate and Rights for Every Eligible Child” programme, through a joint initiative of the Social Welfare, Health and Education Departments of Balod district, following the directions of Collector Divya Umesh Mishra.
Deputy Director of Social Welfare Ajay Gedam said persons with disabilities from Balod development block participated in the camp. A total of 350 persons with disabilities were registered during the camp.
Of those registered, 20 persons were enrolled for issuance of new disability certificates, while the disability certificates of 15 persons were renewed. In addition, 25 persons were registered for Unique Disability ID (UDID) cards, while four persons were assessed for assistive devices.
Applications for scholarships were processed for 22 beneficiaries, while 26 persons were registered for physiotherapy services. A total of 46 persons were registered for special education, and four beneficiaries were assessed and measured for artificial limbs.
Blood samples were also collected from 20 students for sickle-cell testing. In addition, 35 students identified as having specific learning disabilities were assessed, and their reports are being sent to the District Hospital in Balod and the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) in Rajnandgaon for further examination. Disability certificates will be issued to eligible students after the reports are received.
Gedam further said that information related to special education was provided to 40 persons with disabilities residing at the Gharaunda Shelter Home operated under the Social Welfare Department, Balod.
The camp was attended by the 350 registered children and persons with disabilities along with their family members. The department distributed forms related to various welfare benefits, including pensions, assistive devices and scholarships, to eligible beneficiaries.
Participants and their families were also given detailed information about various schemes and services operated by the Social Welfare Department. These included facilities provided through the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), Gharaunda Shelter Home and Swavalamban Centre.
The administration also made arrangements to ensure that participants could attend the camp without difficulty. Refreshments and meals were provided to persons with disabilities and their accompanying family members. Bus transportation was arranged to bring beneficiaries from their residences to the camp venue and safely return them after the programme.
Officials and employees from the Social Welfare Department, Balod, District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, voluntary organisations operating under the Social Welfare Department, Education Department, Health Department and Balod Janpad Panchayat were present at the camp.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that eligible children and persons with disabilities receive the necessary certification, welfare benefits and support services through a coordinated effort involving multiple government departments. The administration said such camps provide beneficiaries and their families with access to essential services while also creating awareness about government schemes and rehabilitation facilities available to them.
