New Delhi, Oct 2026 : The Cockroach Janta Party has announced its support for the INDIA bloc’s proposed rally on November 1 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, opposing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raising concerns over the voting rights of eligible citizens.
In a post on social media platform X, party founder Abhijeet Dipke said the Cockroach Janta Party was extending its support to the INDIA bloc’s campaign, which seeks greater accountability from the Election Commission of India over the electoral roll revision exercise.
The party said the fundamental principle of democracy was that people had the right to choose their government, rather than governments or institutions determining who could participate in the electoral process.
It expressed concern that the SIR exercise had raised questions about the possible exclusion of eligible voters from electoral rolls, arguing that every citizen should be able to exercise their constitutional right to vote without unnecessary obstacles.
Party invokes Ambedkar’s vision of universal adult franchise
In its statement, the Cockroach Janta Party invoked the vision of Dr BR Ambedkar and the Constitution makers, emphasising the importance of universal adult franchise in India's democratic system.
The party maintained that every adult citizen should enjoy an equal voting right, irrespective of caste, religion, gender, educational qualifications or economic background.
Recalling the role of leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru and Ambedkar in shaping India's democratic framework, it said the Constitution makers had placed their faith in the people and recognised equal participation as essential to the success of democracy.
According to the party, the objective of India's democratic system was to bring more citizens into the electoral process rather than create circumstances that could leave eligible voters excluded.
The party also stressed that the Election Commission's responsibility was to safeguard the voting rights of eligible citizens while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of electoral rolls.
It said it would support organisations and movements working towards free and fair elections across the country.
INDIA bloc plans mock parliamentary session and Delhi rally
The INDIA bloc has announced a series of programmes, including a mock parliamentary session and a major rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1, as part of its campaign against the SIR exercise.
The Opposition alliance has sought accountability from the Election Commission and raised concerns about the potential impact of electoral roll revisions on eligible voters.
The Cockroach Janta Party described its support as an effort to prioritise national interest and democratic principles over partisan considerations.
Although the party has a limited organisational presence and little significant electoral influence, its endorsement adds another voice to the Opposition's campaign on electoral roll revision.
The ruling side, meanwhile, has dismissed the Opposition's objections as politically motivated and maintained that the Election Commission operates independently.
With the November 1 rally approaching, the INDIA bloc is seeking to bring together opposition parties and other organisations to highlight concerns over voter registration, electoral transparency and the protection of democratic rights.
The debate over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is expected to remain a key issue as political parties press their respective positions on the functioning of India's electoral system.
