NEW DELHI, Oct 2026 : Congress general secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday accused the Narendra Modi-led government of attempting to obstruct the INDIA bloc’s mobilisation for its November 1 ‘Delhi Chalo’ march and mega rally in the national capital, alleging that Indian Railways had denied requests for special trains from Telangana.
In a post on social media platform X, Venugopal claimed that the Centre was trying to prevent Congress MPs, MLAs and party workers from travelling to Delhi to participate in the Opposition’s planned demonstration against alleged electoral irregularities.
He alleged that the government was attempting to suppress the Opposition’s campaign against what it describes as “Vote Chori” and demanded that the Railways arrange adequate transportation for participants.
“Modi-Shah are so nervous, they have started blocking people from all over India who have begun moving to Delhi for the November 1st Delhi Chalo March and Mega Rally,” Venugopal wrote.
The Congress leader said the party had repeatedly approached railway authorities seeking special trains from Telangana but had faced delays and an eventual refusal. In response, Congress leaders and workers staged a protest at the South Central Railway General Manager’s office in Hyderabad, demanding that the arrangements be reconsidered.
Congress protests at South Central Railway headquarters
The demonstration at the South Central Railway headquarters was aimed at pressing the demand for additional trains to transport party workers and supporters to Delhi ahead of the November 1 programme.
Venugopal alleged that the denial of special trains was a deliberate attempt to create logistical hurdles and restrict participation in the Opposition’s rally.
The Congress maintained that supporters from different states should be allowed to travel to the national capital without unnecessary obstacles and called on the Railways to address the demand promptly.
However, railway authorities had not issued an immediate official response to the specific allegations concerning the requests from Telangana.
INDIA bloc plans major rally over electoral issues
The INDIA bloc has announced a large rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1 as part of its campaign against alleged electoral irregularities and concerns surrounding the functioning of the Election Commission of India.
Opposition parties have been mobilising supporters across states to participate in the programme, which is expected to bring together leaders and workers from constituent parties.
The alliance has raised questions about electoral transparency and accountability, while the ruling side has rejected Opposition criticism of the electoral process.
Venugopal’s allegations have added a logistical dimension to the political confrontation ahead of the rally, with the Congress demanding that the Railways facilitate travel for participants.
As preparations gather pace, the party is expected to continue pressing railway authorities and the Centre to resolve the issue. The Congress has indicated that its protest will continue until its demand for additional trains is addressed.
The November 1 mobilisation is set to be a key event in the INDIA bloc’s ongoing campaign on electoral issues, with the Opposition seeking to demonstrate its support in the national capital.
